1200w dwc scrog in the works

I'm planning out a 3x5 1200w dwc 4 plant scrog grow in a sealed room in basement (ac/dehuey in summer if needed). I was thinking about getting 2 6'' 449 cfm vortex fans, one for a carbon scrubber for odor control and one to cool the lights. I just want to know if one 6'' 449cfm vortex (after the lights) sucking 55-65 degree air from outside the room through the hoods and out of the room again would be sufficient to cool 2 600's. I'll also be running an osciliating fan to circulate the air in the grow room. My plan is to prevent the odor from 3lbs of widow from escaping the room as much as possible...any suggestions? :rasta: I'm still in the planning/shopping stage of this grow and it will probably be atleast a couple months before I can fire it up but I want to make sure there aren't any huge flaws in my plan before spending all kinds of money on supplies

My 3'x6' scrog cab has a passive intake and one 6" Vortex fan that sucks fresh air into the cab, blows through the hoods (2x600w) then exits through a carbon filter. Well, this set-up kept the odor down from 2.5 lbs of Widow - I'll let you know if it works on 3+ lbs. of Widow after the next grow.

thanks pharmacan, if the vortex/carbon filter keeps the odor down from 2.5lbs thats good to hear :jump: I know I wont pull 3lbs for a while but I have high expectations for myself once this system is dialed in...1200ppm of c02 will most likely come into play after a few grows to help the widow fully ripen in under 10 weeks. :joint: I'll be feeding superthive/nitrozime/floranova grow/micro for veg and floranova bloom/micro, pk 13 14(week 6-7ish)and gh ripen(last 10 days)for flower. I want to push the limits on yield under 2 600's because I cant really go bigger than that for a while. In a perfect world I would be running 6 600's over a 6x9 scrog but I wont have the proper facilities to pull off a grow like that for atleast another 5 years :fsu: :fsu:

I have yet to see a harv of 3 pounds from a 3x5 area. I been doin this for a decade under 600's with some heavy yielding blueberry/skunk cross and never seen more then about a pound from each 600. As far as the fans go , it all depends on how far the air is bein pushed and how many if any bends are in the duct work. I use one vortex 449 cfm sittin on top of a can66 filter and it works like a charm over three 600's in-line. It never hurts to go overkill on exhuast tho.

I'm trying to keep the ducting as short as possible with no bends and the can 66 is the same filter I was planning on buying...I'm psyched this setup works well for 3 600's in a row too because I plan on running 3 600's over a 3x8 scrog during the winter months when cooling is easier :jump:

Well I been doin the same three 600 setup for a few years now with that can66 and the vortex. Not to mention my exhuast duct is like 10-12 feet long and still pushes plenty of air. Enough to keep my room under 75 degrees all the time. My setup is usually about 3x8 , sometimes I widen it to 3.5. The only thing I might do is add another fan when I step up to four 600's. Since I only have 7 girls flowering now, im just using two 600s in there and the other is runnin a mh conversion in my veg room. Soon Im gonna combine both rooms and have 2400watts flowering. I dont think the single vortex I have is gonna quite get the job done once I make this move tho. Guess I'll have my 449 stayin on the can66 but just add another fan at the other end to pull the air as well. Pullin air is alot easier then pushin it , thats for sure. Good luck.

Wellll.... 3'x6' is a tad larger than 3'x5'. LOL

On my last grow in this cab I had a 1K light on one side and a 400w on the other side. I got 2.5 lbs dried. That was my first scrog and I vegged the plants way too long so it wasn't an ideal grow and I know I can improve the results next time around. I have since changed the lights and now have 2x 600w side by side. I know I can increase the harvest by properly grooming/training the plants, and there might be a slight decrease because now I have 1,200 total watts vs. 1,400 total watts before. Nevertheless, I know I can match the 2.5 lbs.; probably I can beat it.

You're absolutely right about the ventilation being dependent on the length of runs and number of turns. I didn't want the filter taking up room in the cab, so I've got my odor filter outside the cab, with the exhaust blowing through it.

I'll probably try both 3x6 and 3x5 since I dont know if more watts per sq ft or more sq ft of grow space will yield me more with 4 dwc scrog bushes.

LOL - decisions, decisions....

I'm only on day 18 of flower with the new lights, so I can't speak for the results of the 3'x6' - but the light coverage seems pretty even and the plants are growing evenly.

I have the same 6" vortex fan which will cool a 1000w HPS in a 4x4 hydrohut tent, i was wondering if you guys thought i should use a small squirrel cage fan to draw air in or if i should stick with a passive intake?
