I am using Canna Coco and all Canna Coco nutes. I have been following the nute schedule from canna but adding superthrive @1ml per gal. When I switched to 12/12 light i fed following the schedule but I put 8ml pk 13/14 instead of the recommended 6ml. Last night I started to notice some discoloring on the leaves at the top of a purple mango and looked at some pictures and came to the conclusion that I have a (p) def. So I fed but only put the recommended 6ml pk 13/14. Now today I go back hoping to see healthy plants and to my surprise one of my Pot Of Gold is having the same problem! Whats goin on? What should I do? I dont get but about 10% runoff after each feeding could this be what is screwing me up? Should I flush?

I almost forgot to mention, I am using R/O water and am feeding at a ph around 6, right now the batteries on my ph pen are dead so I am having to go back to the old 4 drops in a vile shake n check color.

Well with the drops they do EXPIRE. I've noticed mine stopped working after about 6-8 months. They changed color from being in the warm garage.

Fix that PH pen and get your PH on track...thats first in my opinion. When your PH pen is working, test your Pen in comparison to the DROPs to see if they are the same. If not, you'll know PH was your problem.

Then go from there :)

Best of luck!

My first rule when shits goes bad, go back to what was working.
That and only change 1 thing at a time - changing more than one thing leaves room for misinterpretation. was it this - or that - or the other thinggy? --- SO - that said,,

I'd be in line when the store opens and get the battery problem fixed - guessing leaves a chance of guessing wrong. pH is only a problem when the plants don't like it - same for nutes.

Once you can check the basics - I'd mix a fresh batch - check he numbers and apply as usual then observe.

The problem looks more pH related - which goes with the water change - mineral levels in tap are vastly different than RO. That may - or may not be saying your tap is an issue - what may be the issue is your nute strength is different with tap water and RO water (And your pH) - You may need to adjust nutes to the water or go back to RO. And tap water is better buffered and less affected by differing pH than RO water.

My theory is tap water is different everywhere - some can be about lethal - some is like the nectar of the Gods - most, somewhere in-between.

Well looks like ill have to make a run to town first thing tomorrow morning. Before my dumb ass left the ph pen on overnight i was feeding at a constant ph of 5.7.

So how do I check my soil ph?

This is my first grow and im still learning.

Take a sample of your run-off water (once it goes through the soil and drains out the bottom) and see what it reads.

Your PH should be around 6.5 in soil, not 5.7

EDIT: I read the top of the thread, it looks like you're running CoCo not Soil like you mentioned in the above post.

There is part of the problem along with not knowing the what the ph is now is also a problem.

Well I went n picked up some batteries today and went to calibrate my ph pen before I used it and it was acting crazy after my on and off buttons quit working I took it apart to see what the fuck was goin on in there and found that it was all wet. The seal where the element meets the pen failed.

Anyhow today when I went to the local grow store the guy told me my ph should be at 6.2, but I read that 5.7 was recomended in coco. Does anyone know for sure what ph I should be at?
