1000watt light and 4x4 growing area help

So I have been running 4x4 tables I built under 600hps. I went from 4 plants under each to 3. Now I’ll be upping a light or 2 to 1000watt HPs. I know they very well cover that 4x4 area, my question is more on should I run 4 plants in the 4x4 tables under the 1ks? Space wise for the plants would it be efficient? Or better off for 3? I need as much plants as I can get but I’d also rather have room for them to grow out. Doing 6-7week. Veg in coco

More important to have well developed root systems and a full canopy than counting number of plants, in my opinion. What size are your pots?

I like 9 in my 4x4 tents. Requires less veg time to fill the canopy evenly..

Some strains stretch more or require longer veg times to produce more bud sites via topping or lst. I usually try avoid those strains but sometimes shit happens!

I use 1000's. Run as much light as you can properly cool(within reason).

What this guy said. I run in straight coco and have found somewhere between 7-10gallons of coco per 1kw maximizes my yield. As long as I fill that much medium with good solid roots, I should be able to get the same yield with 9-1gal plants or 1-9gal plant that at its peak will go through roughly 5 gallons of nutrient solution per day. Note, these are automatically multi-fed (Blumats), you’ll have issues trying to hand water using those numbers as the plants will dry out too fast. Haven’t done it, but if I did, I would start with 20gal of coco/1kw if I were going to hand feed and adjust as I go. Veg time is really the coinciding variable with plant count. Less plants, longer veg. Good luck mate :tiphat:

Thanks all. I was looking to run 10gal pots, 50-50 mix of perlite and coco. As far as plant counts it doesn’t realy matter but I want to be able to fit as much as I can, but I also don’t want it to be a pain in the ass to get to the plants. Why I was debating on just running 3 plants under each 1k. Doing a 6-7 week veg.

If I were a betting man, I'd bet 2 plants with a 6-7 week veg in 10 gallon pots
scrogged proper would easily fill a 4x4 space....

Agree with this. 15-25 gallons in a 4x4 should do you well!

I should have said this prior. My room is 12ftX 9ft. But I build 4-4x4 trays in the dead center. I’m debating tho, if only running part of the 4 trays. Maybe just 2 or 3 of them. If I can get away with 4 plants under each 1k then I’d be happy. If that’s kinda not warranted I want to run maybe 3 of my lights and trays (2-1k and 1-600hps) run 3 plants under each. The 1ks would slightly overlap with the 600 and I could also add another 600 to the center of the room for added light.

I second this. Assuming no med laws limit your plant count, and no scheduling issues limit your veg time, plant count doesn't matter all that much outside of being efficient. It's much more efficient to run 16 or 32 plants per 4x4, top them once, veg them for almost no time at all, and flip them than it is to veg 1-3 plants for however many weeks or months it takes to get them to fill out the canopy space. They all work though, meaning they all result in a full canopy. It's just preference and math.
