1000w, three concrete walls, one aluminum door w/ grate

I

I have an outdoor closet, it's 4.5x4.5x8. Three walls are brick and stucco, the door is a heavy-duty outdoor aluminum door with a grate. Kind of what you'd see on a closet of an industrial closet.

Anyone have any good ideas?? I have no resources to ask around for help.. So I ask you guys and hopefully we can talk up some ideas.

1000w is all I would run.. I'm wondering how to cool it all.. Would it be best to make it a 'sealed' room with a portable stand up unit sucking air through the grate?? It has a 1/2" conduit in there for the 120v lamp that hangs above, I assume I can bring in some 10ga for a 240v outlet hook up for the air/lamp..

Pictures soon..

yea it's discreet.

im thinking of using a portable ac unit, so the grate on the door would be the intake/exhaust for the ac.. 12000btw should cool a 1000.. have everything recirculate through the scrubber, and I can get a propane-burner for c02..

still thinking..

You may want to think about a 600w or 400w in that space instead of a 1K.

Unless the entrance is private and you don't mind working with the door open, you're never going to be able to turn around in there, especially if you put in a portable a/c.

It also sounds like you might have ventilation issues.... the lower wattage the lamp, the easier it's going to be to conquer the heat effectively.

Stay Safe! :D

You should try running 2 400 watts or one 600 IMO . To cool the lights you should use a vortex fan mounted on the ceiling and venting out the side or ceiling. Draw in fresh air from the bottom or the other side. You can also present your situation to the growstore and they can help you buy exactly what you need to make that situation work. Dont forget the bug screens. Do you have room for a small window unit to be placed inside the room?

I cleaned the closet. Water doesn't leak, no bugs or critters. The ceiling to the closet is plywood and stucco, that covers a 2-3' high crawl space that's like 10 feet wide - that means I have some place to dump my hot air into without making it obvious. The bottom of the metal door is a little rusted so I'm going to raise the door stop with a 2'x4' so the seal tighter at the bottom - I'm going to have to redo the weather stripping all around as well.

I plan to do top fed slabs, the trays will be set 2.5' off the ground which gives me enough space for my res, and my portable unit under - saving floor space. This first run I'll do it with a coil ballast since it's what I have on hand but I'll be going digital since the ballast will have to be in the room - in this space a digi could mean 8-10F degrees.

The grate on the door will act as the exhaust for the hot air.

how the hell do I keep this from stinking??? wont the exhausted air from the ac unit stink??

This is how I plan to do the cleaning of the air and the cooling of the hood..

Thoughts??

Well if your portable has separate intake and exhaust ports, you just need fresh air from outside coming to your intake and exhausting right out, so that it never uses grow air... if the grate has enough room for all that.

The grate is 21" x 18"

no clue on how to manage the airflow :\

ok here are a couple of quick snaps.. it's night time..

all three walls are brick/stucco, the ceiling is plywood with stucco over it.. the ceiling doesn't have an attic, but there is a good amount of "attic" space due to the 2-3' high 15' mock ceiling used to create an overhang in front of the closet.

the 12k btu portable i found is 2.5' tall. if i set up the table for my medium at 3' high I should be fine - i can make a cover for the grate to have the portable ac unit exhaust. use the space under the table/next to the ac to keep my res..

Delonghi 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner
24-hr. timer
Dehumidifier-only function
Fan-only function
Adjustable thermostat
Quiet operation
Remote control
Dripless operation

I would like to NOT have to use the faux attic space and make the room 'sealed'. Unfortunately the only way I can think of doing this is by putting my scrubber on one side of my air cooled hood, and my 647cfm can fan on the other end of the hood and dump that cleaned/hot air in the crawl space and let the ac take care of the rest..

i might be sucking out too much air for the ac to work well that way..

not sure.. ideas??

Is this outside? If so, what are the temps like? Do you even need an air conditioner? If you could get away without AC, you could use the grate in the door as a passive intake and vent your lights through a hole in the ceiling opposite the door. But that assumes the outside air is at or below the temp you want the inside to be.

Dont rule out using the front grill for you intake and outtake, with enough air pressure the mixing flows wont matter.

Venting out to the ceiling would however be ideal but unless it is incredibly leaky it might not have enough openings?

The rest as far as how everything connects up will be a piece of cake to figure out, you just need the gear.

I dont see why you need an AC? dont complicate it before you need too.

As far as where you put your scrubber ect;, your blessed with plenty of vertical space there, put it above the light even , followed by the centrifugal fan, though the cool tube then out into the attic, remember you cant blow hot air through a centri and they like to blow anyway.

jh.

i have the same ac, how long have you been using it does it still work as good as when you got it? (is it a pac c120?)

i had mine drip a lot of water running it in dehumi mode, then it got full and turned itself off even though it was dripping - its been a pain in the ass im gonna keep using it for a few more weeks with a pan under it till this heat is over and take it back get a grow specific portable ac like a quick kool or movin cool you said you "found" it i dunno if u already had it in storage or somethign or w/e but just chekcin since you said it was a delonghi...your plan sounds pretty good by the way just make sure that air conditoner works good for ya....
