1000w light output

I just bought a 1000w hps bulb off of ebay. The brand is generic (Supergro). I hooked everything up and it isn't much brighter than the 400w hps that was currently up there. It lit the room a lot more distance wise but isn't really that much brighter. Is that normal? The 400w is 55K lumens, and this one is rated at 140K. Should it be night and day for brightness? Just curious! Thanks!

is your ballast 1000 watt?

Yes, everything is right in the equipment. Sorry, the brand of bulb is Growpower. Am I trippin' or should it be night and day between brightness? Thanks!

dude the difference between a 1000 and a 400 is signifigant. meaning I need to wear welders goggles when I am in the presence of my 1000.....the 400 is nothing.

the problem could be that you "just plugged it in" 1000 watt bulbs can take up to 15 min to get to their full brightness on some ballasts. did you keep it running and allow it to warm up?

1000 watt pics

Here are some pics of the ballast and bulb. The writing is blurry but it says only use 1000w hps bulb. Hopefully I am just paranoid. I included a pic of one of my girls showing the light around them and in the corner, I put the 400w hung verticle.

I noticed a date of 6-12-02 written on your ballast housing. It is entirely possible that the ballast has depreciated significantly in Five and One Half Years of Use and how many years use did the ballast have before you bought it? It looks like an old dinosaur!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regarding bulbs, have had 2 not fire and they were, of course, Chinese made. Fortunately my online supplier replaced them with Made in India Bulbs that perform.

Got the ballast from a buddy, don't know how much wear and tear it has been through. Didn't even think of that! It does make hella noise! I will look into getting a new ballast. Thanks for the input. Wait...What...I will plug them in and check the meter. Good idea! Thanks again all!
