I was thinking about buying a 1000w hps

is this enough for my 4 plants?

also how far do I keep the light from the plants

my grow room stays at 80 with 2 flouros and 4 cfls

how much heat will the hps put off?

thanks

if just floros put off that much heat, it'll be a day in the blistering hot sun, in the middle of the desert!!! What kind of Ventalation, and Cab/Room size you have? You'll definetly need good ventalation if 80 degrees is with floros. Hope this helps abit. Peace,,,and stay Blazin,,Pot that is. Arab2

you are going to have many disappointments down the road if your temp is already that high, and you can't make any holes. without ventilation your plants aren't going to get nearly enough co2. if you can't cut holes to run ducting, there is now way you can upgrade to a larger light, even if you get a digital ballast. also, you will need to create your own source of co2. search the forum for diy's, cause there are some VERY ceap, effective (especially for a closet grow) and easy, as it uses only sugar, yeast and a water bottle. make sure you get some fans in there to at least move the air around.

i forgot to mention, if your only using cfl's and flourescents, your going to want to mylar the ENTIRE inside of your closet cause your gonna need to make maximum use of the limited light you have.

i wouldn't get anything over 250 watts for your situation, 400 watts puts out a shitload of heat, 1000 watts can heat a small house. I would just stick with a small 250 watt HPS and maybe get a portable ac unit to put in the grow room or in a room attatched to it. you dont have to make any holes, you would just run the duct that comes w/ the portable ac unit to your window.

agreed... i have a 1000w right now with a 265cfm fan and air conditioning and i can barely keep the temps below 82 i my basement... 82 seems totally fine to me, the plants are doing great, but i cant imagine it being any hotter or not having any less cooling than i already do.... try and pack as many floros as you can in there, you should be good.

alright I pulled a flouro out of my garage and cleaned it up

I put new bulbs in there but I can only get one of them to work

any ideas on how to fix it?

Without proper venting the 1K would bake your babies. Basically, any high output bulb is gonna create heat that you will have to deal with with ventilation Another option would be to use a T5 fixture with the bloom bulbs in it. I just used one for veg and am very suprises at the results it gave me.

get t5 or t6 flors you will see the differance they will pay for themselves first grow.

Unlike the above posts I disagree with many of the aforementioned solutions. It is true that you don't want temps over 85, but just because you can't cut holes in the wall for ventalation doesn't mean anything really. Can you leave the door open during 12/12 while the light is on (with fans)?

If so then a 400w is fine...in veg higher temps don't matter (long as their below 90) as much and honestly it really doesn't put out that much more heat than a 250. I just bought a digi 400 and the room temps are at about a 3-4 degree difference, from switching from my old coil 250- if that. Could be a lot more though if you go for a coil...

You will need LOTS of air circulation and Co2 is a good idead... but only from an expensive tank/gas hookup. The yeast thing really didn't work for me with any strain and it also did not work for a few fellow growers of mine, one of which uses the regular co2.

I think your shooting WAYYY to high with that 1000 watt talk. There is no way, a 1000 brings heat and electricity to a whole new level. I use no co2, in a closet temps at 85 and my ladies are doing fine. I have 2 fans going, a cool tube, digi ballast, and the door is left open teh whole time the light is on with a lot of circulation. It is a lot of work and money but it can be done. A small air unit will do the trick, but beware of the crappy ones and most use a liquid thus increasing your humidity.... which at those temps you should have some sort of dehumidifier anyways... that will help a lot.

It is hard to really say what will work and what won't you can only research so far, and poeple here can only offer input based on the small details you tell them. I had many people on these forums tell me that a 400 with no ducts going through the wall with expensive fans and shit all hooked up was not going to work in my walk in closet. I went against all opinions and got one... very similar to the 250... and in fact works a hella lot better. Not to say you shouldn't take advice but take it as a grain of salt, you won't know for sure until you try... I am glad I did.

If you can leave the door open with fans going, I would say your pretty safe with a 400, no more.
