1000w 4x4 Growers

Just wondering what you guys that are using a setup like me keep your 1000 watt HPS light distance from canopy at? I have been keeping mine at about 24 inches from canopy (block buster hood with 1000w Ushio bulb) and recently dropped it down to about 14 inches and it seems to be discoloring the leaves, slightly...

My temps on the other hand have not increased with moving the light closer and i've done the hand test and all with no ill effects... I know the closer the better, but a 1000 watter in a 4x4 is F'n bright...

How close is yours?

I would keep it around 18-24 inchs. Always been about right for me.

You put the light to close you will get light bleaching. Also you will possibly burn your plant from to much heat or stress them out. 24" is the closest you want to get to them. That is full spectrum of the light.

My 1000 watt hortilux is pretty low to my plants. I grow 4 large untopped plants in my tent, 4 different strains at 4 different heights. So not one of them is in the direct middle under lamp. I have a bubblicious that is around 16 inches from glass on magnum hood. I have a sour kush that is seriously 2 inches from touching the glass! No light bleaching on any. Although I have had some bleaching in the past...different strains can take different things I guess.

For the record, not sure if it helps, but I have a light diffuser clipped to the mogul base to help not make light so intense in spots. I used to squeeze a 5th plant in the middle of the other 4 and always got bleaching on it. Of course, that one was directly under the lamp.

And like I said, they are large plants. The sour kush is in a 3 gallon and stands around 5 foot off the ground.

Mine get pretty close to the tops , but the only real problems i've seen from it are a few bleached tops . my gorilla bubbles are showing some tacoing leaves & they're further away . so i think its strain dependant too .some love the light , others not so much . so i think as long as you have good air flow , you can get down to a foot or so without alot of burning of the tops .


i use block busters too , 8" & i get the hotspot right in the center every time . i usually just push them off to the side a bit , but that one kept going back lol

Dansbuds, I have raised my light back up some, they are about 19 inches now above the canopy. I don't or cannot find any hot spots in my tent, thank God lol. I also think some of the (very slight) discoloration in my plants is due to under feeding as well which I am fixing to double up on, I can see the nitrogen deficiency starting to really take hold as well as a few other very minor beginnings of other deficiencies but I am pleased to say that this is one hell of a healthy beautiful grow I have going this round....

What are you feeding yours and what medium are you using? What size containers????

-What week/day of bloom are your "current grow" pictures in right now? Those are some fat, beautiful buds ya got there buddy!

uhhh lets see ...... 3 gallon pots of straight canna coco fed twice a day with V&B powdered nutes ( Veg&bloom RO formula in 0 water ) at a peek level of 1.4 EC & they are at day 35 in the pics .
