<!-- /GRAY BOX ARTICLE CONTENT--> The man was shot and killed early Wednesday afternoon after members of a multi-agency drug task force hiked into two grow sites at the north end of the lake, the Napa County Sheriff's Office said.
But it was still unclear if the suspects fired weapons and how many of the eight officers involved in the raid used their own firearms, sheriff's Capt. Tracey Stuart said.
“I'm don't know the sequence of events that led to the shooting,” Stuart said early Thursday. “The interviews with the officers are today.”
The name of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of next of kin, Stuart said.
A second man, a Fresno resident, was arrested. He was identified as Oswaldo Rivera, 21, Stuart said.
The 12:50 p.m. shooting followed by less than 24 hours an incident in Mendocino County in which someone shot out a Mendocino County deputy's truck as he was leaving a pot garden raid with other members of the county Marijuana Eradication Team and the state's Campaign Against Marijuana Planting.
No one was injured in that incident a few miles down a dirt road off Orr Springs Road, east of Mendocino, the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office said.
Thursday's violence unfolded after members of the Napa Special Investigations Bureau took boats to a remote location on Lake Berryessa and then hiked into the gardens, Stuart said.
