1 Pound Harvest???

I am looking to set-up my first hydro system. I have decided to scrog with a deepwater culture and need to choose a medium. 400w hps and some flouro tubes and cfls are the plan. i would like to know... scratch that... LOVE to know if it is a feesible goal to think i have a shot at harvesting 4 or less plants filling a 3x3 screen yeilding a pound or more per harvest??? if not please do not say more light, i live in an aparment and electricity is the problem. if so... what strains would you suggest, (prefferable from the nirvana collection, they are most affordable) i read a thread on a chronic plant that single-handedly produces 1 pound under a little stronger light scrog style. i am willing to use up to 5 plants if necissary. please... any info would be helpful as i am brand new to the hydro scene. You can achieve your goal, but do not expect that to happen with your first grow. Read grow diaries here from growers who are doing a similar style. You need to tune it all in, including a good yielding phenotype. I recommend "Mist"s crimping thread as a good one to learn from. Good Luck.

400w and a pound for a first timer is close to impossible i would say! maybe if you get it dialed in!

chronic yields very good grown right and the best way i heard and experienced myself is sog - so for a 400w grow you would need about 9 to 25 plants - but a 4 plant scrog should give you some good yield as well!
from what ive heard and read topping is a no go!

i would get the seeds from serious - im not into this whole nirvana thing! you can go and take a look at mr.nice critical mass, many people say its better than the chronic ...

FIRST OFF... how do you plan on running DWC with coco and hydroton as your medium? DWC is where the roots grow into the oxygentaed resevoir, not a medium like coco. Hydroton is used for netcups. SECOND pulling a pound in a 3x3 can be daunting, lets think of the numbers. You would have to have about 64 quarter oz nugs to reach that goal... Strain choice will be very important. Blue mystic never did any1 wrong, nor ice or white widow // rhino.. I would personally choose white rhino because of its cola size and quick flowering time... If you live were it is hot I would recommend growing in Foxfarm ocean forest soil.. REMEMBER, the water in your hydro resevoir must be around 70 degrees to be work well... Top your plants at the 5th or 6th node.. let the branches grow out, and then top them again at week 2. veg 1 more or 2 more week and flower.. if all else is right u could get a p

Haps, its funny you mention that, i was literally just reading that before i posted this, that is where i got the idea for the crimping or as others referred to it on there as careful supercropping. my brother often emphasizes the need for the learning curve and why i cannot just achieve strong goals like that right away and it takes some tweaking. i fully understand and respect this yet i grow oh so impatient... thanks though man, i appreciate you dropping in.

from my understanding, you could start it in the coco and the roots will grow right out of it throught the net pot? no? maybe i mixed it up with another medium, the project is not yet started so all is adjustable and op[inions welcome, thank you for the advise Sir Nugget, especially in the strain choice.

I think your coco would wick up too much water leading to root rot and all sorts of other problems... use hydroton or similar clay pellets as they wont soak up water as much.

My friend please don't listen to the doubters here, It can be done!!!!!!!! You MUST scrog though. If you do an advaced search and click "titles only" and type "one pound" there will be a link that says "1000watt=pound" click on that and you will see a guy who done it with a 400 watter using the scrog style.

Hey thanks Kusherman! lol i knew many would doubt but its the motivation to prove people wrong that has brought me this far in life, (quite litterally i succeed to spite past doubters), haha any ways thanks for the link, ill check it out and see what i can rig. i do intend to make this work, on the second grow tops!

Why is your central focus on eventual outcome of ONE POUND ?
I am new to growing and am pleased to harvest any amount.
My first plant yielded about 3.5 ounces of dry weight buds.
The second was almost equal in dry weight.

I'm not sure that obtaining ONE POUND dry weight is possible since, from what I've heard
the dry weight amount is approximately 20% of the fresh wet bud weight.

Are you under the impression you will grow 20 pounds of fresh buds under a 400 watt light?

HarvestTime, good luck on the quest for a lb under 400 watts. im a noob using a 400 hps in FFOF soil but i did a scrog 2 plant dwc but summertime temps kicked my ass. deff. keep res temps 70F or under.

i cant imagine hoping for a lb, at least not yet.

Of course it can be done! Not by a first timer though.
I grow 2lbs under a 1k and it has taken me a long time to hit that mark.
I have been growing for 20 plus years, you have to learn to walk before you can start running.

If it was me, I would do hempy style of growing and scrog for sure.

According to you 20% dry would be the 2 lbs

Wet weight isn't that hard to hit, I think you are trying to show how 20lbs on a single plant would be CRAZY but really the bud SIZE isn't what changes all that much but the weight of that sized bud does.

Can I do 1 lb on a 400? NOPE
I am still working on a pound from a single 600 BUT know it is possible. Many extend their floorprint and have better light distribution among other things they dial in.

1.12 grams per watt sounds attainable to me no matter what the WET version might end up weighing.

Any yield is generally being referred to as dry weight so yes that person should be talking about DRY weight.

well for starters, thanks to all who put their 2 cents in even those who say it can't be done just because they havent, can;t, or dont know anyone who has. the evidence is here, it may not be likely for a first grow but i hope to achieve it ultra soon. the reason, you ask, why i would set 1 lb as a goal???... why not? its a nice amount of ganja and i wanna smoke it... but in real life the figures work like this...16 oz at 350-450 an oz sold is 5600-7200 oz by oz. now it takes 3 months or so for the full cycle assuming no problems and no delays, my rent is about 850 a monthx3 months for the project. now assuming i sell to mostly friends, it takes around 7 or so ozs to cover that. now i need enough weed to smoke for 3 months, predicting the bud to be amazing, a half oz or so per week going very light. theres another 6 or more ozs right there. well say we are up to 14 oz right there for good measure. the last 2 are equipment and running costs plus minimal extra spending money. yes i wish to live for free off of weed i grow so that i may save up my work and other money for things i can't figure out how to get for "FREE". thats why a pound. now if i can mangage slightly less but have a constant rotation to harvest more often... i could deal with that too.

can a 400watter do it? perhaps i stand a better chance with a bigger tub and 10 or so plants under the direct light? scrogs have proven to yeild some amazing amounts from what ive seen. of course keeping other atmoshpereic conditions as close to ideal as possible is priority and choosing a large yeilding strain also important. i am determined, scratch that, obsessed with finding a way, it can be, and has been done so as long as the budget continues to allow for it, i will make it happen somehow. thanks again for all the support/ opinions that i may in fact be madd... that could be a good thing right? who knows maybe ill discover something revolutionary and achieve my ultimate goal of someday far after the pound is achieved, becomeing high times man of the year or even developing a strain that wins a prize in the cannibus cup.
