Mold proof jungle strains

Aloha, I am looking for some new genetics that will be grown in the rain forest in Hawaii. We get 100-130+ inches of rain and plenty of sun at times. It could dry out for month's or rain for month's, all depend's on the tradewinds.
I am most interested in strains that can be ordered online. I will be growing outdoors and in the greenhouse. Any suggestions are highly appreciated. :rasta:

I understand the conditions are x-treme. 100-130 inches/yr are not normal for most people, here it is the norm. I have grown some of the best talked about genetics on this forum, and in this environment they were no better than bagseed. I have read every thread about tropical growing on this forum. None of it even rings close to home. Well maybe Chamen's tropical thread. :joint

thats pretty crazy, try northern lights its pretty resistant, i grew it outdoors and my white widow started to mold before the NL did. But I don't know if will be enough resistance for 300cm of rain. Could you make some kind of clear rain cover that will not block light?

one of our Australian friends here told me that Papua New Guinea strains are particularly mold-resistant.....i believe there is a flying dutchman strain called "Voyager" that is part New Guinea land-race, but i am not sure how available the pure new guinea gold is....

i would love to hear about other mold-resistant strains......good information for sure!!!

:ying: kind regards from guineapig :ying:

Aloha, I did a run of Nl#5 x Early Pearl called FastFreddie from BCSC and it did very well. We had ideal conditions till about the second week outside, then it rained constantly for the next 11 weeks. I lost maybe two or three buds to mold and rot. Only thing is BCSC is now out of business, thus this thread.
We have constant helicopter surveillance. I mean constant, all year, any month,any day. Some days for days at a time flying at 400ft and lower, gridding out whole subdivisions. Anything that looks suspicious or out of place gets looked at even harder. It is a real MF to get a good outdoor crop with all the ripper's and copters let alone the weather. We can build greenhouse's to keep things a little more under control, but I tell ya having copters hovering over your greenhouse all the time is nerve wracking to say the least.
On a lighter note I am interested in some of these sativa's I see here and all the new strain recommendations are much appreciated. I was thinking of picking up some Molokai Frost hybrids from Motarebel and am looking at Wallyduck's gear also. Keep the recommendations coming!

What about the Hawaiian Sativas? They are some of the best on the market and are supposed to be from the area right?

Aloha JITAMON i think you need to basicly get hold of very sativa expressive lines to deal with the high humidity and basicly monsoon like rain systeams you get there.

Basicly a plant line thats branchy and has airy flowers to take advantage of any air flow.

You could get your self something like say mangohaze ( a personal fav ) or supersilverhaze or a good 50% haze hybrid and even something like neviles haze wich i saw growing in a picture growing in a greenhouse in hawiia was truely an asome site.

If you could say run select find a nice sat expresive phino you like keep it as a mum and take cuts run them out in the jungle and or in greenhouse.

I may self found even the longer flowering phinos come in faster if run from clone and its not uncommen to find 8 week flowering clone plants in 50% haze lines.

I friend told me about the dea fly overs there and how there ment to stay at an elevation of 1200 ft i belive and he showed me pics he took of them almost landing on the high way also i was told they have gun ship escorts in parts.

hi Rainman sadly from what im told trying to find the old hawiian sats are like trying to find a needle in a hay stack there in the hands of some but take it from some one thats been in serch of them since the mid 80s your better off looking for big foot.

Aloha, I have grown ALOT of Hawaiin sativa's. I no longer do so because they are known to get large and the copters and rippers have a field day. I am looking for something that is more compact so we can hide them easier.
I have Jamaican seeds that were bought from a grower in Jamaica and will be grown in Hawaii for the first time. I also have BlueDiesel and Big Sur Holy from a friend in Big Sur, CA. Some Silver Haze from L.A. and Purple Durban from Humboldt,CA. I am looking for something that might be better than these new goodies'. I can get local seed galore. I want some mold proof gear that is cutting edge.

Yeah the flyovers are something else. They pull 100,000 plant's a yr at times.

I dont know what else would realy be mold proof sativas are what you need but yes they do grow tall they can reach 6 meters there and the only way to do them with out haveing them stand taller than a house is try tieing them down training along the ground wich realy isnt wat your after.

A friend grew f2s of the widow i sent him and they grew nice the top flower was 3 ft long alone but rain came and it to got what your trying to avoid.

Maybe the muluki hydrids be an option then for you but sat frame is what you need even if its short to avoid mold.

I didnt think there was much hawiian sats still left from wat i was told sad you lot cant grow them as i as do most feel there up there with the very best sativas.

Good luck in your search.

i was just about to mention early pearl. it took the very hot and humid weather in eastern ky(100% 99% of the time). yields were great and the smoke was nice and stoney

ALOHA, Thank you for the great recommendations. The Widow grows great where we live. I have grown Early Pearl and it was pretty good also. I like the sound of the Mango Widow and the Mango Haze. Dutch dragon sounds interesting. Am also considering Swazi since it grows great here. Looking at Wallyduck's C-99 x's, always wanted to grow those. I also kinda want to get some fresh Duckfoot seeds. So many choices.

I agree with guineapig on the PNG, there is a landrace floating around called
PNG Gold which is widely known in Oz.
Its homeland is very hot, wet forest in the highlands.

I would also recommend Swazi (red) because of it's good mold resistance and generally it's an all round kick-ass strain.

Some Northern Indian jungli strains are well worth looking into,
As they are well used to the rain. check out REAL SEEDS.
They do get big, but the simple answer is to grow in pots, the root restriction can also push them to flower earlier.

Easy JITAMON. I too am looking for a strain that can withstand high humidity. i started a thread 'What strain can cope 80% humidity?'

I'll be growing in a garden shed. And UK weather at the moment is very very wet. I'm just finishing off C99, Double Gum and Matanuska Tundra X G13, and i'll be lucky if mold dones'nt take hold within the next 2-3 weeks.

The Double Gum could be ready by the middle of next week, so that won't be effected too much.

A couple of years ago i grew in the shed Kush X Black Domina that did well, also Cinnamon. Last year i grew Papaya and Hempstar, but they got mold, although it was about 5-10% lost to mold.

The Kush X Black Domina did well outdoor 2006 considering it rained most of Sept/Oct. Consiquiently i did lose about 40% to mold, but still i got more than a Oz of 2 girls each (2.5 Oz'ish)

So yeah i'm gona be in a similar boat as you my Hawaiian friend. Only 10,000 miles away...

Peace Tc

Beanho - Hawaiian Sativa x SSH
Greenhouse - Hawaiian Snow
Seedsman - Hawaiian Skunk

Dali - I dont think he asked for elite hard to find Hawaiian Sativa genetics but something that could take the weather and give great returns. So quick to try to jump in and try to correct folks! Dont you get tired of being the leper at every party?

do a kalimist it is said in the grow report on serious seed web that it is mold resistance.
and one hell of a good smoke.their are phenos that are medium short to tall .but you could get some tent stakes and tie her close to the ground and have a out door scrog.

Arguably the top sativa strain available today. With 90% sativa genetices, Kali Mist grows into tall, running, classically sativa plants with very few leaves. This strain produces dense clusters of full fluffy buds, producing much higher yields than you would expect. The plant structure and few leaves allow the light to pass all the way to lower branches, allowing bottom buds to develop fully. When planted outside early in the year this plant can grow very tall. Expect spiraling flowers with a high resin content and a delightfully spicy scent.

Kali Mist is often the choice of experts for their own stash grows. Also, particularly women seem to like this strain, next to the sheer pleasure of smoking it, we received several reports that it works great against menstrual cramps.

We are proud to announce that Kali Mist was improved in 2000 to produce bigger yields. In Spain it proved to be very mold resistent, even outside during bad weather. This strain has flavor and subtle cerebral effect that gave it a Cannabis Cup first prize in 1995 (Hydro Cup) and again (with this new and improved version) in 2000 (Seed Company Sativa Cup)! Without a doubt the choice for connoisseur stash. Gives a very strong, clear and energizing High.

* Type: Sativa
* Indoor clone grow time: 1 - 5 days
* Indoor flowering time: 70 ?90 days
* Indoor yield: 300- 500 grams/m2
* Outside/ Greenhouse harvest time: November
