Growing by the Moon's phase and positions.

Cannabis growing by the phases and positions (zodiac signs) of the moon

Preface:
After much searching (and not much finding) for information on growing cannabis by the moon phases, I have decided to compile all the information I have found and write up this guide. As this information is still not completely understood, some of the sources contradict slightly, so I am putting what makes the most sense to me (or doing my best to include multiple sources' information and still make sense). You may want to read the information for yourself and make your own decision. Read these especially if you're curious as to why this whole moon phase’s thing works, as I will not be going into much of that here.

First, the boring informational stuff (some background info):

The lunar month is divided into two basic moon activities: waxing and waning. The beginning of each process is designated by the new and full moon. A full moon occurs when the moon is 180 degrees opposite the sun, in position to receive sunlight over the maximum volume of its surface. A new moon occurs when the sun and moon are so closely aligned that it is impossible for the moon to give off any reflected sunlight. Waxing occurs in the period between the new and the full moon. Waning describes lunar activity between the full and the new moon. When the moon is waxing, it is said to be in its first and second quarters. The waning of the moon brings the phases through the third and fourth quarters of the cycle.

During the first week of its cycle, the moon’s light increases, and its gravitational pull decreases. The relative influence of terrestrial gravity increases at that time, stimulating balanced growth of leaves and roots. In the second week, lunar gravity increases, and its light increases to a maximum. Leaf growth increases during that period. During the third week, both moonlight and lunar gravity decrease, and root growth is enhanced accordingly. Transplant at that time. In the fourth week, lunar gravity increases, and moonlight decreases. Both leaf and root growth decrease during this rest phase.

The waxing moon phase is a good time to encourage plant growth and proliferation. The waning moon phase is a useful time to control plant growth and keep down garden pests....

Planting by the phase and position of the moon is most effective when organic gardening procedures are used. although, I’d bet it works in almost any case.

Now, the slightly less boring yet still informational stuff (what to do):

Working Soil:

Prepare the soil, pull weeds, and fight pests during the new moon phase in a barren sign (Aries, Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Sagittarius, or Aquarius).

For best results, work soil when moon is in Leo as it is the most barren sign. Gemini will give good results, particularly for weeding. Virgo is effective.

Weeds and pests will be more destroyed than any other time if destroyed when the moon is in the fourth quarter and in Leo.

Sowing:

The optimum time to plant your cannabis is when the moon is waxing or just before (and not during) the new moon (no more than 2 days before) and when the moon is in one of the following signs:

Libra- Good sign for planting crops that bear above the ground. Very good for vines and flowers. Seeds planted in Libra produce strong pulp and root growth. The best sign for planting beautiful and fragrant flowers, vines and herbs.

Air signs work well for some plants, but are generally barren and dry. Libra is an exception to that rule, and is semi-fertile and good for blooming flowers and herbs.

The fertile water signs are Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces, and are best for planting above ground, leafy annuals.

Cancer- The most productive sign. #1 sign for general planting. Seeds planted in Cancer germinate quickly. Plants propagated in cancer are the hardiest, best growing, and withstand drought.

Scorpio- One of the best signs for general planting. Seeds planted in Scorpio produce good vine growth, sturdiness, good fruit set, winter hardiness, and drought and cold resistance.

Pisces- Also one of the best signs for general planting. Seeds produce strong root growth, drought resistance, deep root penetration, short top growth, and a healthy, plentiful fruit crop.

Although more particularly for root crops, the earth signs Taurus and Capricorn are also good for planting.

Plant as close to the middle of the recommended cycle as possible. Use common sense. If the lunar calendar says to plant on a day when flash floods are expected, it is probably better to wait until the next elemental cycle.

Watering/Feeding:

Water and feed plants when the moon is waxing and in a, you guessed it, water sign: Cancer, Pisces or Scorpio.

If plants need a food boost, it is a good idea to water down the fertilizer and add it to the soil as close to the full moon as possible, particularly if the plants require phosphorus (as cannabis does).

Cuttings:

In the first or second quarter of the waxing moon, take cuttings from plants you wish to propagate. Once the cuttings are rooted, pot in the first or second quarter of the waxing moon.

Cancer is the best sign for taking cuttings, although, I would imagine any of the water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) would be good.

Pruning:

All cutting, gathering and trimming is done with less injury to the trees and plants when the moon is waning than when it is waxing.

The best time for pruning is when the moon is in Pisces or Scorpio. Capricorn is also good.

Harvest:

Harvest when the moon is waning and in the signs of Aries, Gemini, Leo, Sagittarius, Aquarius or Pisces.
If the harvest is to be next year's seed, try for the same moon sign as the one under which the seeds were sown.

It is important to note that you should not do any gardening task at the exact time of a phase. Aim for as close to the middle of recommended cycle as is feasible. Each of the exact phase positions marks a critical time as the moon makes a shift from one phase to the next.

If you miss your day, don't worry. The moon will pass through another sign with the same element in another nine days.

In between signs the moon is void of course. This is a good time to take a break and enjoy the fruits of your labours. Don't do anything to your plants while the moon is void of course, except maybe smoke them. The calendar I have linked on here a couple times also tells when the moon is VOC.

The sun:
Because the Sun stays in a sign for a full month there are some months that are better for certain gardening tasks than others. Interfacing the Sun cycle and the Moon's cycle takes a little skill but is not difficult once you apply the logic.

If the Sun is in a 'fertile' sign for a month, then you should take advantage of that month to do some gardening - naturally the best results occur when the Moon is also is a fertile sign and the correct phase with the Sun. The best days for doing specific tasks will depend on the Moon's sign. To synthesize the phase with the sign is important in planting. There is no point in planting at the correct phase, if the Moon is in an incompatible sign - one which might damage or inhibit growth.

Remember the Sun stays in a sign for approximately a month, the Moon passes through all 12 signs in a month, so stays in a sign for approximately 2 and a half days. A new moon always occurs when the Sun and Moon are in the same sign. A full moon occurs when the Moon is in the opposite sign to the Sun.
Found this and thought it might interest someone

i had a thread on here a month or so ago on this subject and i grow inside and deffenitly can see and feel more resin in the waning and full moon. but as far as trying to plant, propagate, and all around growing, it is just to confining but im sure it works.

he was trying to explain to me why his plants all got seeded and didnt grow like they usualy do cause he was off with his lunar schedule and shit.... its amazing stuff... i wish i could smoke him on some of my none seeded widow with some widow bubble and have him help me pull off an outdoor crop!

i use the new moon to first qtr to schedule when i plant. i have at 95-100% germ rate. i've tried when the moon was at different phases and had worse germ rate.
