How do you get the leaves to stick straight up???

Hello everyone
So ive been growing for about a year now and been pretty successful but i have yet to attain the ability to make my plants' fan leaves stick straight up. You know, when the plants are just buzzing with nutrient perfection and they are angled almost at 45 degrees around the nugs?
Early on in my current sour diesel grow they did this for about 3 days (on day 12) when i switched from PBP veg formula to bloom, but ever since then they have been sticking out straight, which is good, but not the best....
I notice hydro plants usually have this symptom all the time, as well as really good soil growers... so..... whats the secret?

p.s., for you 1000 watter's out there, how far do you keep your light from your plants?

offtopic but let me ask you how big is your grow room?

i wanted to use 2 1000w hps in my attic for a big crop

also what temps do you get?

my grow room is 4.5x6, but my plants are only taking up 4x4 right now... i have 4 of them in 7 gallon buckets. I did the stanley blower mod which supposedly runs 265cfm from my 6" sun system hood. Temps max out at around 82.

Like this? When you get your soil and nutes dialed in the plants will let you know.

They usually do it after they have been very dry and lack nutrients and you give them a good feeding. A lack of light will also get them reaching. I love seeing them after they have been fed and they thank you.......

Ya, i just fed those girls. As far as light, they are under a 1k with a Hortilux blue.

Most of the time. If I keep the same strain and same feedings and time that I feed. Most of the time. I get this the most when I make my own soil. Keep it to basics and feed with nutrient teas. Thats just how I do it.

im not the best grower nor do i claim to be but im sure the leaves are supposed to be sticking out to the side, not up. In my experience when the leaves are angled up it is because the lights are too close and they are evaporating the moisture in the leaves too fast and the leaves angle themselves against the light to minimize their profile so that less light/heat is striking their surface.

If I get that 1k too close it burns the leaves off. They don't turn up. I have seen them turn to catch light though. Mostly in the plants just outside of the footprint of the light.

ok cool, so basically what im getting from this is that if the leaves are just sticking straight out and not up then your doing fine?

thanks eveyrone,

Pheno's and strains are like people,my blockhead pheno leaves point neraly straight up after feeding where my WW leaves never go past parallel to the floor, color vigor and lack of chlorosis or dying leaves is a much better indicator of health than the angle of the leaves to the light.I'm sure the plants adapted to give itself maximum light at the different angles it may choose to use

perky leaves

perky leaves

regarding the leaves suddenly stiffening in a perked position is most likely a deficiency and not something good. I suspect vonfarnes plan to suffer Mg-def and maybe some lack of P aswell...

Of course genetics can play a certain role, but not if a plant changes like this.

Keep growing and learning along with us. And be sure to post your garden pornshots too :yummy:

I agree with smilin bob. The upward leaves are a characteristic of particular strains.

That plant is a Kwik Kali from Sag.

A GA spray will do it in 20 minutes....a light mix...one time, otherwise you will get an hermie.
bringing the PH at 6,2 helps too.with like 5 drops of vinegar by liter of water or fert.

Well you said it. But I am a Badmf grower! And I claim to be, lol.
Plants with properly dialed in nutes, temps, light, co2 and humidty will seek the light and reach upwards. Those that think its strain specific I would challenge as I have seen many many grows and ones "on" are like Vons. I am certain you will get a very nice product but til its "on" its just not.
