ICMag Google Sketchup Database

What is Google SketchUp?
Google Sketchup is a powerful yet easy-to-learn 3D software tool.

After seeing several members stumbling upon Google SketchUp and discovering how useful it really is inspired me to give it a shot and experience the same. After playing around with it one night I realized just how useful it could be if the members could share their designs with each other, allowing others to get a full 3d view of a project with the capability of being 100% accurate.

The hardware and software requirements for SketchUp.

* Graphics card that is OpenGL compliant (make sure you have the latest graphics driver for your card*)

Mac: [Download Sketchup for OSX]
* Mac OS X v10.4 or later
* 400 MHz PowerPC™ G4
* 128 MB RAM
* Graphics card that is OpenGL compliant (make sure you have the latest graphics driver for your card*)

How can I share my creations with the ICMag community?

This is a question I have given much thought, due to the nature of this website many users are weary of outside links, the only current solution would be to use the Google 3D Warehouse to host the files.

In the future I hope to provide a secure database that will allow the Sketchup files but until then this is all we have.

Uploading your model to 3D Warehouse.

You have two options when it comes to getting your model into the warehouse, you can create a new account and upload the files to it yourself, or you can email
the file to an account I have setup and I will have it uploaded for you. With both options please make sure
you are using a new/secure account or email with NO personal info tied to it.

-Creating Account and Uploading:

New Account link:
https://www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount?

Once you have finished the model you can share it within the sketchup program yourself.

After the file has been successfully uploaded you can link to it directly by viewing "My Models" and clicking the title,the link should be similar to this:
"http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"

-Emailing file:
If you decide to email the file to the account I have setup, send it to [email protected] and please include
the following information:

Title: (A short title describing your model)
Description:(You can be as elaborate or simple here as you like. Dimensions, materials, ect are all useful)

All files sent to this email will be uploaded to:

ICMAGS Models:

That is about it for now, lets see what we can do!

I knew how to use AutoCAD a few years ago, but I've lost all knowledge of that. As soon as I get some time I think I'll definitely figure this out and get my cabinet layout posted. Awesome thread, I can't wait to see other people's designs.

I think many people see such a program and are intimidated by it, I can't stress enough if you have any doubt just give it a try. With some patience and your imagination the possibilities are endless! :wave:

I am working on a few classic designs now to start the thread off, but I am sure we will have some fantastic models from the community.

sketchup has a built in tutorial that starts up the first time you use it.. and an extensive help feature where it explains everything in simple terms and steps.. :chin: at least mine did.

it took me a whole half hour to get the hang of after reading through snippets of the tutorial and i already have an extensive model of my entire grow setup done now..

See, this right now proves to me that we are living in the absolutely best age EVER to do this. We now have a proven platform that everyone can use and we can advance the R+D on the technical side which, IMO, has been sorely lacking in relative terms to the actual horticultural R+D.

I'd echo some comments for mabye some advanced tutorials on how to build components like lights, boxes for fans, etc but I figure if I can master constraining proportions that learning it won't be that hard.

I'm glad to see we're making strides towards a better blunt. Huzzah to all!! :D

Fair point. Hard to disguise lights in sketchup. But here's an idea: why not a torrent? Attach files to the posts we make here and then once we've enough, 20-30 or so, we release a torrent into the winds and let it flutter and flitter as it may.

Just an idea. I'm just throwing about ideas because I'm really keen about making better ideas happen here.

too much nonsense cluttering peoples minds that our original thought is overlooked or bottlednecked! we must learn to recognize and embrace original thought and together we can think up anything!
