I think I have the exact same setup you have JDogg, its a grinder with a screen sifter. Nice grinder, kinda big but oh well. I was going to use it but started making Bubble Hash. I need to break that thing out and put it to use.
Maybe it's just me but i really don't get much out of my grinder. I have the Kannastor which is supposed to be the best and haven't emptied it in about 6 mo and i would be lucky to get 1/2 g right now.

by the looks of the kief compartment and the quality of the kief im pretty sure we got almost the same grinder. my Sharp Stone grinder works very well but the steel screen is not fine enough. i usually sift the kief/bud mix through a panty-hose screen, the gold kief comes through the red hairs and

there are a few "spacecase" knockoffs that have tons of different micron screens.
so when your at home you have a 3 type screen and when you wanna take it with you just bring one or none.
it also comes with a cleaning tool and cleaning spray for about 125$ canadian.

Well here's mine and it seems i have more caked in the grinder then i do in the bottom. Those large chunks are some bubble i threw in there to get "sugar coated" I'm certain the screen is 180 micron so it's not a fine screen.
Chiefsmokingbud-I know what you mean. I have a spacecase and while it works great when it is clean, after a month or two it takes forever for anything to accumulate at the bottom. I quick wash mine with iso every few months and make some iso hash from that. Then the grinder is clean and working like new. I just get tired of cleaning it so often.
I have found that the best way to get the most pure kief is to just let it naturally collect whatever it can without me actually sifting the weed or beating it through the screen.

my spacecase is the bomb. it gets a little rough on the grider part tho - there is a black buildup that occurs, but i've had that with all my griders. i just get a q-tip and dip it in nail polish remover. then rub around the parts that meet.
as far as cleaning the screens, Iso alcohol works great, you just gotta let the screen section soak in it for 2-3 min and then wash it down with water and air dry (compressed air works best)
i agree though, kief is crazy, that shit get's everywhere. even in the threads?

Ya know i've wondered about that. I get a real dark substance around where my lid fits to the grinder and i know most of it is resin.....but could it also be some aluminum?
Most of them are done CNC now. Although stainless is a whole lot harder to work with i don't see why they can't do it....i would deffinantly buy one.

my buddies have a stainless one, they don't cut the teeth diamond sahped like the spacecase, they're small pyramids if you can imagine. they cut them the same way they cut those plastic grinders. it's not bad, the screen on them is too big though so you get a lot of greenish in the kief chamber. i like the spacecase. definately worth the money

those grinders with a mesh screen are a good introduction into the world of making your own dry sifted hash!
but they have their limitations...
I wouldn't call them a gimmick or gadget..but there are much better (and lower cost) alternatives out there if you want to make hash yourself..GN's stash boxes are one consideration..
as we have seen from the above posts...usually those little grinder/screen units either allow too much green to fall through with the trichomes (cos the mesh screen openings are too large) or they clog up too fast (due to the mesh being too fine)..both are inefficient and produce unsatisfactory results in the long run
the problem with these kif grinders lies in the size of the mesh area - it's just too small. Most kif boxes contain a mesh that is usually between 100 ~ 140 lines per inch (approx. 150 ~ 115 micron)...and this works great with most strains
but due to the tiny mesh area on kif grinders, it works great for a few days then they clog up easily .....so some kif grinder makers use a mesh with larger sized openings so it doesn't clog up so fast..but then the quality suffers and you are left with mostly broken up leaf matter mixed in with the resin heads
if a kif grinder was 4 or 5 inchers in diameter...then they would work just right with a 110 or 120 mesh, but the problem with that is cost and weight
if you want to prepare bud - always use a quality grinder as it contains the explosion of trichomes when the bud is broken up..if you want to make dry sifted hash then make or buy yourself a kif box
if you want to make hash that your friends will rave about ....use a dual screen system, quality starting material and a gentle technique!
check out seedbay for specials on Gypsy's dual screen stash box...last time I looked they were $99+shipping...which is excellent value compared to a high priced aluminum kif grinder
