Pre-grinding trim before using in bubblebags

Hi all,

After doing 3 successful runs through my bubblebags, feeling more confident about the process and being happy with the results, I'm starting to wrap my head around the concept and want to fine tune my technique.

I was wondering if pre-grinding my trim and buds (like in a coffee grinder) would be advantageous in helping to reduce the amount of work I do in the bags.
Grinding the material would help increase the immediate amount of surface area, and I'd think that this would make it easier for the precious trichomes to dislodge from their stocks and fall through the screens.

Maybe there is a reason this hasn't been done before or at least is not common practice.
Any help?

you'll get little bits of leaf that are the same size as the trichomes, so with well ground bud you'll have bits of contaminant leaf in every filter size. Don't do it.

Good point...
I don't mean pulverize the stuff...just chop it up nicely so that your stirring/poking device (plastic spoon/electric mixer) doesn't have to do that job.

With such fine screens, 73 micron being the golden one, would other leaf matter really be small enough to fall through the screen?

the cool thing about the bubble process is that leaf material gets wet and trichs don't. That allows the trichs to break off in the icy water and separate from the leaf. grinding will just result in more leaf in your hash. In fact, you can drop full buds in there and once they get soaked, icy and agitated, they will release their trichome booty completely, no need to break them up before hand. I say, do not grind it will just dilute your hash. Truth is, agitating for too long will do the same thing--add leaf to the hash.

Of course it would be. Even if you only cut every floral cluster with precision scissors from the inflorescence, removing just the supporting stalk structure, some tiny particles of plant matter will be released with every cut, and will contaminate the final product.

On the other hand, yield will be improved.

Yield at the sake of potency I suppose.

I realize that the glandular head (where the THC is contained) is insoluble in water. That's why the "traditional" techniques rely on lipids (fat) or alcohol to extract the THC compounds.

I didn't realize that breaking up the leaf matter would pose a threat in being strained THROUGH the screens. I just figured they'd be bigger than that.

Thanks for the enlightenment.
Maybe bubbleman himself will shed some light with his experiences.

Well I've pulverized trim the last two times with my watersieve (classic ice-o-lator),I guess next time I'll spend more time and work to save those precious trichomes. No more lazy bastard, koulty!
