beware of your ferts

I have been having some serious problems with my plants. For the past couple weeks they have begun to get yellower by the day. This led me to believe that they needed nitrogen, so I gave them a nice drink of FF grow big. They got yellower within days. On top of this some plants I had elsewhere had now been placed in this room, and they began getting yellow and losing leaves. I was then sent some clones, and within a week they started getting yellow. I took everything out of the room, cleaned it and transplanted everything. They got yellower.

Yesterday I drove to my local hydro shop, 90 miles away and told them what I was going through and what I was using. The man that owns this shop, used to work at the one I went to before. As soon as I told him he started smiling and told me what the problem is. It seems the other shop had gotten a "deal" on a large amount of FF ferts in 2003, and I bought this gallon in late 2004. I now find out that after a period of time the organic bases break down and become worthless. He said a year and a half is max. So allthough I was feeding my plants, they were getting very little from them. This time I bought Pure blend pro grow and pro bloom. Last night I gave 3 of the plants a nice drink and this morning the leaves on those 3 plants were pointing towards the lights and smiling.

It is my hopes that this will help people. Maybe these fert companies should take a lesson from Budweiser and put a born on date on their bottles, lol....

Helped me..

I was just wondering this morning how long my bottle of Canna Bio Vega would last - as far as I can tell I've had the bottle about a year and a half!!!

The weird thing is that my bottle of chemical canna flores has a use by date on it (which is out of date, so i haven't used it), but the Bio one doesn't so i assumed that it would be fine.......

Guess that's how it is with the bios. I talked to a guy at GH, and he said my 3bottles of grow, micro and bloom should be okay even after 4 years. If there's not a thick mass in the bottom, they're good as new, so i guess that rule is only for bio.

Very interesting jj and totally plausible imho

I'm going to pass this info on to a thread or two with mysterious early yellowing probs.

organic nutes do go bad

organic nutes do go bad

I had a bottle of tiger bloom go bad,the bottom looked like it had a 1/4" flat rock on it,hard as hell.I've also bought a bottle of earth juice (grow)that was already bad,I couldn't keep the ph balanced for nothing(in hydro),Seems it ferments be cause the ph wasn't taken low enough to make it stable,so it sets on the shelf and eats itself up. LOL earth juice is a pain the ass anyway. My 2 cents on this subject...Take care,BC

I can now say that my plants leaves are pointing towards the lights for the first time in weeks. I just took it for granted that they never went bad because it says nothing on the bottle.

Yes...I was always told to get rid of my PBP after 1 year....I'm sure they would still work somewhat after that. They are in a constant state of degradation...fresher is always better.

Also, remember to change your bulbs out regularly....same thing applies....constant state of degradation.
