Stealthy 400w Perpefual Harvest

Hi all. Another OG refugee here.

This is my latest grow that I made from 2 matching dressers.

My flower cabinet measures: 36" high x 28" wide x 17" deep. It is interconnected to the veg chamber for ventilation from a single stanley blower.
The 400w HPS lays in a pyrex bake-o-round cool tube linked to my blower outside the cabinet. I veg under compact flouros in the right hand cabinet. It is wider than my flower cab by about a foot and also about a foot shorter.

II grow both in soil and hyro. With soil my nutes consist of, bat, bird and worm droppings. I also throw in some kelp meal and liquid karma. I use Pure Blend Pro nutes in my 4gal. DWC tubs.

Currently I grow 2 Phenos of northern lights X Haze and a Durban Poisen. The Durban is in the photos. Old Mommy on left in soil and her hydro offspring in a bubbler on the right.

I used to run my blower inside the flower cabinet but that just cut my vertical space to nothing so i put it in a box outside the cab. Since then I've gained almost 12" of vert. space and consistant temps.

quite impressive! Never seen a 400w in such a tiny space. What are your normal yields under that setup?

My plan is to get 2oz+ per plant inside the flower cab. I'm rotating 1 in every 4-5 weeks so i harvest them seperatly now.

These new pics are of my cab with the blower still inside instead of in the computer case box to the extreme left. I also used to use the white ducting around the bottom to distribute air. The plant is bagseed that i ended flowering in shallow water culture and ditching my 4gal.res because i veg'd it too long. In these pics i'm flowering with about 26" vert space. My temps in the cab were high 80's with burning on the buds around the shorter stubbier hurricane glass i was using to cool tube. It was also very cramped in there as you can see by how far the plant opened up when i took it out. I took it down about 2 weeks early at 5+ ozs. dried.

looks pretty nice. I'm sure with a little more experience and some better genetics you could be yielding closer to 10 O's per harvest (if assuming between .5 and .75 grams per watt), but 5+ O's is nothing to scoff at, still a very respectable yield :) good job with it

i like the set up seems to be very effecient for the space your working with. and seems quite stealth. What do your temps stay at? are you able to leave your flowering door closed when the lights on? how many total plants can u fit in your flowering space? what size pots do you use for your soil plants?

My temps run in the high 70's to low 80's now with all the cabs sealed up. I usually use 2 4gal tubs for the soil plants but have taken interest in the 2-litre SOG setups on this site.

VERY nice!! where is the stanley blower? In those boxes on the left I assume? I also run a SB and ive got it mounted in a "backpack" halfway in and halfway out of my cabinet. I also figured out a silencer for the output, but since yours is inside another box, how is the sound level?

heres my cab:

this is the silencer ... very effective at removing the WHOOSH sound...

this is a half-assed carbon filter... fortunately my strains arent too stinky, yet!

what are you using for odor control? just sharing notes,, dont mean to hijack!! :)

The blower isn't the quietest. fortunatly i have 2 pc's in the room to help keep the fan sound emmenating from allover instead of just the fan box.

Thats a good idea... thats when a nice LOUD PC can really save you... unfortunately my PC died, and im on a nice quiet laptop.. :pointlaug :moon: :bat:

Grow News and other info:

My temps at the top of the canopy seem to be running +8 F. over the room temp when lights are on. On another note i need to really remember to keep my veg short on my dwc buckets. My clone is getting set to overtake her puny mother for cab space. I'v swapped their spots so any pics to follow will have dwc on the right side.

Also I hate my plywood doors. They flex and bow with humidity changes and make total light stealth tricky. i'm using modeling clay as a reworkable seal to keep all my light in. Hopefully santa will bring me a nice small fan to move are around in my flower cab. That or a nice adapter for my pc fans. Pics coming shortly of my dwc growth.

Here's a dumb question for ya,one that I really just dont understand. With all that room you have there why are you using an enclosure at all?Is it for stealth from the family?

yep. keeps me safe if we need a babysitter or the like.

on top of the fact you cant flower plants (very well) with light leaks going on! have you tried thick weatherstripping? :)

wheatherstripping is great for the sides where there is no bow in the wood. just the top and bottom need something different. I don't have any real light leakage. Just a few glowing not glaring spots on a seam that i use my clay for.

New pics. One of the flower cab and one of micro mommies.

NICE! You could also try bolting a pair of angle-aluminum or angle-iron (bedframe) braces to the back of the doors, to help stiffen them up. You could also try sealing the surface of the wood, to keep moisture out of the grain. Make sure the EDGES are sealed, etc. :chin: Good luck with it! :)

Do you really have babysitters over?
That sounds like a bad idea in my oppinion, unless you luck that room and cabinet... I've babysat before and that looks like something someone would open up... thinking it'd be something else, ya know?

Right On. I like the bedframe idea!

Babysitters are friends who likely wouldn't care alot if they found the grow but i'd rather keep it quiet. I vent outside for smell but will likely build a carbon scrubber if i ever get the opportunity to put my 400w to use with a bit more space. I'd love a 3' x 3' or so flower area so i could play around a bit more.
