Grapefruit Search - (GF x Chem) x OPG testers

One of my first grows ever 20+ years ago from 4 mystery seeds yielded one plant with the best grapefruit smell and taste ever, and now I'm hoping that one of these tester seeds comes close to replicating that taste from so many years ago.

Thanks to PANIKZ for sending me these testers a couple months ago..

There were 10 seeds, but only 8 germinated, and one was a runt that got tossed. Now we're left with 7.

I been vegging them out for maybe some weeks now. Have topped them twice, and prepping them to put into flowering in the next week or so. Here we are after the recent second topping and strip.

These will be grown under HLG QB96's plus far red and UVB (Agromax PureUV T5).

EDIT: Adding this abbreviated (...) quote from PANIKZ regarding genetics..

..the Male used in the crosses was a Orange Pink Grapefruit Male from Catnip seeds Kudos to dr.penthotal and Alpine seeds for the creation, here is some history of Orange pink grapefruit and some awesome pic's aswell

The male was an instant stand out in the room i was eying this beuaty up for weeks in veg wondering if it was female, just the structure vigour and stem smell was unreal on this beast when i see it was male i was like yes thats the one he is going to be your daddy girls, and he didnt disappoint with the amount of thick pollen dropped

I'm using a mix of coco and perlite as the growing medium, an feeding with Megacrop plus a little extra CalMag to help with the LEDs. They have been vegging under a 4k HLG 288 board, but will have more of a flowering spectrum with the QB96's for flowering.

Right now they are just in one-gallon pots, drain to waste, but I plan to move them into hempy pots filled with coco/perlite in the next week when I move them to the flowering space.

I'm basically just waiting for what I have in my flower tent to be done, so that I can move these in there. Here's a little shot of what's in my flower tent now..

RealGorillaseeds has lots of REALLY good strains. I've got 3 Super Cream Cookies going hoping to get a fem to clone. Also got the Lemon Dizzle growing to clone, it's getting pretty good size. And funny enough I put A Dosidos and RG4 in some paper towels!!! I'll probably get a few cuts of each. I had a RG4 outdoors that was really GG4 leaning. I grew one inside last year that was huge, it was a different pheno, helluva yield and pretty good weed though. There's like a Lemon Dizzle with huge WIFI leaves I believe is the best. This one I've got doesn't seem to have to HUGE fan leaves, I'll still get cuts from anything I can!!@

Nice, and good to hear! I'm looking forward to finding a keeper from these. I'd taken cuttings of each plant to clone, so that I'll be able to keep the best of the bunch. I'm also on the lookout for a good male too, for my end of summer seed making project.

I took the cuttings about a week or so ago, and one had roots popping now. My cloning technique is pretty simple, just basically a bit of power rooting hormone and then straight into rapid rooters at the bottom of a party cup with a 1/4" of water at the bottom. I don't even use a dome.

I grew those last summer, and spring. One of each grew indoor and outdoor. Yea the GG4 leaning RG4, and I got a Lemon Dizzle HUGE fan leaves that's got a creamy kinda vanilla slight Lemon that's real good. The one I grew outdoors had huge buds and very lemon smelling, I didn't like it as good as the big fan leaves pheno. But it's all really preference. Theres so many good plants I've got from RGS. I haven't got a fem Super Cream Cookies yet to try, fingers crossed

Since these seeds are regs I gotta sort out the males from the females pretty quick so I don't waste too much grow space. To aid in that I have a 15w far red led flower initiator. I start it 5 minutes before the main lights come on, and keep it running for 15 minutes after lights off. Using this technique I should see sex within 5 days, at least that's the theory. MY flower tent is now half empty, so I threw these 7 in 1-gal pots in the empty half under 2 QB96's, and positioned the far red bulb between the two QBs..

The HLG far red flowering initiator seems to be working good. Within 5 days of switching the lighting to 13on/11off plus far red beginning of day and end of day treatment, all plants have shown sex. Out of 7 seedlings, 4 are female, and 3 are male. Surprisingly the 4 females are the taller ones, which seems generally opposite from my experience.

Here are the 4 females I'm flowering out. I put the males outside and may keep one of them for some donor pollen in future breeding projects (I'm thinking these crossed with Slurricane). These are now a bit over a week into 13/11 lighting, and transplanted into square 2 gal pots a couple of days ago.

Here's a little update at 2-weeks into the flowering cycle. I've pinched and bent the tops over to help promote lateral branching and reduce overall height. I also finally got my drip system hooked up this week, so dripping them 3 times during lights on for 6-minute drips each time. I may need to increase the duration slightly or add an additional interval as the plants start sucking up more nutes, but they seem real happy right now.

I still have the males going outside in my greenhouse. I might be asking for trouble (aka seeds) later this summer, when I flower in the space, but outdoor buds are always just extra for me, as most everything I smoke is indoor weed.

At 3 weeks flowering (13on/11off) plus far red treatment, looking real good to me. So glad I switched back to my old ways of drip feeding a coco/perlite mix. Plants are super healthy and vigorous. I've been "supercropping" them the past week or so to try to keep the canopy even.

Running the new MaxiCrop at 750ppm, plus 100ppm calmag, plus 100ppm super bloom.

just hitting week 4 flowering now, 28 days @ 13on/11off w/far red EOD treatment. Everything's looking healthy. The buds are starting to set up for what look might be some real spears. Trics are starting to come in now, and the smell is coming in too. Definitely a sweet citrus and grapefruit aroma present already.

Thanks guys! I'm starting the UV treatment beginning this week. I have a 2-foot Agromax PureUV T5 lamp hung up high at the top of the tent, and right now it's set for just 10-minutes on per light cycle. It might not sound like a lot, but these lamps put out a lot more UV than you might think. I'll be increasing the UV interval little by little as the flowering cycle progresses, up to a max of 60-minutes per light cycle.

Also, I'm starting to back off on the far red (730nm). Only running at start and end of day now (so that I can continue the 13on/11off flowering cycle), but keeping it off during the rest of lights on, to avoid excessive stretch.

Here we are at 5-weeks (35 days, for those bad at math) flowering cycle. Everything's moving along well. I got the tiniest bit of tip burn on some of the leaves, so have backed off the EC slightly to around 1.8 EC.
