Identical conditions; one strain loves it the other hates it

I'm growing out some white widow and strawberry diesel from seed. The plants are both about 3 weeks old and recently topped. Getting ready to transplant. I'm using perlite\vermiculite hempy cups, with maxibloom nutes. PH to around 5.8.

The white widow (left) is loving it, healthy as can be. No burning at all, still perfectly green, only yellow are the cotyledons. The SSD (right) is clearly not enjoying this regimen.

What does this look like on the SSD? Should I try PH up, PH down, more nutes, less nutes? It looks waterlogged to me, but the containers\medium of both strains are identical in every way, and even when its bone dry the leaves on the SSD are still curling down like that.

Not sure man, I have one just like it though...

My guess is this, 1 strain is sensitive the other is not, you water more, change this or that trying to fix problem, plant roots are sick and will not uptake water, the more you water trying to fix the problem the more you exacerbate the problem. The constantly wet roots get sicker as you keep watering. My recommendation, water one more time with Ph'd water then let sit to dry. Dont water again til dry.

Sour diesel related strains are notoriously hard to grow.

I see more algae on the right. You are over watering and there is no air in those cups. The feller on the left will dive soon. The bottom leaves on the left are already bending and maintaining a straight stem. TOO MUCH WATER. Not enough air.

Make them ask for water. If you haven't used gypsum, get some quick.

what is your medium?
maybe add something to loosen it up a bit and get better drainage

Exactly. Gypsum will open up the soil. But I am pretty sure the lack of holes and airspace are only part of the problem, how often are you watering?

I'm growing in hempy cups, which for those who don't know is a passive hydro method where the bottom 1\5th or so of the container is a reservoire, the drainage hole on these is about an inch up the side of the cup. I think because of the small size I just screwed up the ratios, and the plant on the right has too big of a rez. Since there's no airstone, you need to have a specific ratio of rootmass above and below the rez to achieve the same effect.

The medium is nothing but about 80% perlite and 20% vermiculite.

The algea is kinda confusing, because I have plenty of airflow and the RH in my tent is only about 35%. Temps about 74 lights on. I water whenever they feel light, sometimes they're drooping slightly by the time I water them, so I don't think I'm overdoing it.

I'm about to transplant both of these, I think once the sick one gets transplanted into a much bigger bucket it should turn around. My plants in larger hempies have always been mega healthy throughout.

IMO, that's a HUGE reservoir for a Hempy container of this size.

I mean, in a two gallon bucket, I've used a 1" reservoir...

Yeah, I think you're right. It just occured to me that I live in a legal (recreational) state and that they might sell prefab hempies with proper proportions somewhere within driving distance... derp!
