Htg 400w CMH anyone using?

I've ordered an HTG brand 400wCMH and just curious of others have used sure seems like an economical option at about 180 bucks. Anyone else use them good or bad? Probably should have asked before I ordered it...

Bulb is 3100k ge- I plan on using it for veg, HTG told me that with CMH that color temp was fine to veg with?

Just FYI light is working great!! Plants are growing like a weed! Fan l aves are huge! My mentor said he's never seen leaves that large besides on outdoor plants - growth rate seems insane- thinking about adding a 2nd to really pound out the photons...

The bud room has three 400 watt CMH rated 4000 K color temp using magnetic ballasts. One 400 watt on a GE Ultra Max low frequency is in veg, also 4000 K.

The 4000 K do fine in the bud room and I bet the 3100 K will do fine in the veg room as well. I checked out the graphs of the spectrum's and both are putting out what the plant needs.

I personally like the higher color temp because it seems to help slow the plants down and give consistent overall development.
It was so close when using warmer bulbs the results could have been caused by which side of the room the fan blew from.
Many items I test are this way, a 2% change is huge, most are too close to call.
CMH color temps are one of those. All the color temps offered grow plants virtually the same, the differences are less than clouds going past the sun.

I presently have a 10,000 K CMH bulb coming for the bud room, it puts out more deep reds than HPS and is supposed to have UVB as well. We shall see, Sunpulse claimed the same but the meter said no.
Regardless, the bulb should function just fine for budding, even at 10,000 K, same as the 3100 K will function fine in the veg room.

Why does the HTG 400w CMH unit cost so much less than 315W LEC's by Cycloptics, Boulderlights, etc?

The HTG system is intermediate tech using a magnetic ballast & an upgraded lamp engineered to work with that older tech. It's not optimized for efficiency like a 315w CDM system, currently the state of the art in HID lighting useful to small growers.

Having said that, the HTG system is probably a decent buy for cost conscious buyers.

Check out the specs on the ED18 CMH bulb. They are pretty good for the price. The only trick is that they have to be run on a 400 magnetic.

I think that for the price, they are fantastic.

Yea you may be right... Bulb went after 6 months though it is a ge bulb, not a generic. I love the cmh, but if I had it to do again I would go with the newer set up w the 315. Or just get a decent 400 hps ballast, and the ge bulb from Amazon... HTG gets almost $100 for bulb, Amazon has same one for 30.

I believe this is the lamp in question-

The unprotected arc tube means it's not open fixture rated although I'm sure HTG would provide it that way.

GE makes protected CMH 400w lamps like this but I think they're for MH ballasts-

Hi guys I use EYE lighting 375watt CMH bulbs and would never go back to HPS, the color spectrum is better and as bonus you get large amounts of UV, all of which the plants love. I run them off 400w MH or Murcury vapor ballasts both are cheap and work well.

I'm glad nothing happened
