Adjust-a-wing Settings

I'm playing with 6 adjustawings (size:large) over 3 8x4 trays. I've tried all the span settings, as well as, adjusted the bulb height setting. It seems that no matter what setting, there is a dark spot in the middle, directly below the bulb where typically you would expect the most light. I have confirmed this with a LUX meter... Any advise how to setup my wings for use with 8x4 trays?

Right now, tight span and lowest bulb seems to be the best setting for even coverage, but still the dark spot in the middle.

No one? I never noticed it before until I started wearing my Method7 glasses and I can clearly see the middle isn't getting as much light as the sides.

hey ceosam, I bought 3 last spring, I didnt notice a dead spot below,
granted i installed them in mid bloom.
took em out 2 wks later because Mh bulbs were drifting in the kelvin range in horz. position.

maybe its the bulbs your using?
have you fired up all 6 and still see it?

yes they are all on and very much in progress... hortilux bulbs

you can even see it in the pic on the closet & middle table

btw... my 3ton mr slim keeping my temps around 90*F

whats the readings on your lux meter in and out of the dim zone
what kind of diff. we lookin at ?


btw
my 2.1/2ton mr slim worked great on my 6000w room,
of course you have to set it at 78F to maintain 84F.
90F is a tad warm.
are you adequately insulated...?

hmmm interesting. I was just thinkin about picking up a few adjust-a-wings.

I can see exactly what your talking about in the pic.

cant remember the multiplier (thinking x100), but it was 220 in the dark zone and 290 in the bright zone. R30 on the ceiling/windows and drywall/brick on the walls

I read somewhere this is a general issue with the large wings... apparently its better on the medium's.

Whats is your temps like outdoors for it to get that hot in the room?

I run mediums with my 1k's. They are obviously brighter in the center.

well fuck.

hot outside always... guess i could go vented hoods but that would be expensive and annoying after going insane on sealing it up

Those big wings trap a LOT of heat underneath them...it's the reason I went to the mediums.

i remember jack mayoffer's huge grow thread saying it growth was insane where the lite overlapped at the edges of the large wings.
it slams it on the edges.

Q, curious on the weak spot,
if the lite is unobstrcted the lite can't be dimmer for any
reason I see?
it has to be brighter from the way the lite is reflected from the
wings away from mid point.

i hate adjustawings for this reason, but i have some that i still run.

the best way i've found is to raise the fixture and fold/bend it more so it concentrates downwards. i end up keeping the lamp adjustment in the middle.

horti eyes are the worst offender for hotspots but i still rock them as they are the brightest.

i've never run 1kw in medium AWs but i switched a room with 600s in larges to mediums and it fixed the problem almost entirely.

greners has a report on reflectors and the adjust a wing large did very poor. the medium was much better but still average. surprisingly, the Ultra wing cheapo knock off kicked ass. the best were AC hoods though. I have the large avenger (if you get on their website, they can have reflectivity of 88%+ with avenger being the best) and no matter what I've done there is hot spots and the huge shadow is forever there. in bloom they have a spreader which is supposed to help although I've heard conflicting reports. http://www.greners.com/reflector-test.html

I have the raptor dual bulb which you can usually get a discount on at the hydro stores. I got mine for $225+ tax. I have one 1000 watt for veg and then switch to a 1000 hps and then a 400 mh for bloom for dual spectrum or you can use 2 600w for increased lumens and an extra couple hundred watts. 600s have more lumen per watt output usually. I love mine and would really like to replace my winged one with the ultra winged cheapo since it's smaller and will trap let heat and it's still light weight for my tent. the raptor is very heavy and would need good support so it's in a room attached to the ceiling.
