What is this on my roots?

Hey Everyone,

I have a run that is showing yellowing & necrosis on some leaves. It was suggested to me that I check the roots for "root aphids".

I have checked the leaves and roots thoroughly and cannot find any bugs. However, I did see something I cannot identify on the roots. May be normal but I sure don't recognize it.

Could you take a look at the pics and let me know what I am looking at?

Thanks

FJ.

What magnification is that? It actually looks a bit like scale, but I don't think I've heard of them on roots though. If it's at very high magnification it could be many things as there are many beneficial critters in our soil.

The scope is 80x. However, I took the pictures by holding my (zoom) digital camera up to the eyepiece. I don't know what to factor in for the camera optics.

Also,
I am growing RDWC in a sterile environment. No soil. No bennies.

Here are some plant pics from this afternoon.

the picture of the roots, one of em in the front center looks to have a white dot that makes it look like a crater to me. Are they bumps or craters? Is that root or section of roots submerged in the water or above the water line.

The one you are referring to is a bump that resembles a doughnut. The others are solid round/oval bumps.

The root section I pulled was about 1/2 above & 1/2 below water line.

Looks fine...
Maybe some prior mg problems... Did you overfeed them?
Whens the harvest?
Next time remove more leaf or dont crowd them in so tight.
Hey Coconutz,

I appreciate your input. I am going to have to disagree with the "looks fine" though. They are beginning to look pretty bad.

I started out with a fairly mild nute mix ([email protected]) and gradually moved up as long as TDS was dropping daily.

I did add CalMag and dropped PH from 6.0 to 5.8 in attempts to resolve.

I am a about 3 weeks from harvest.

Thanks again for your input.

Looks like they got burned at one point from a heavy mix, but the pics there are showing some really hungry plants IMO looks like they are eating themselves. I would go in with a moderate base only mix and see if they green up and your pistil health returns. Best luck and vibes. One

What is your PH at? How are you sterilizing your water? Is your res clear like a fish tank? I can't tell from your pics if that is root damage or something on them. Brown Slime algae?
