Penguin's Micro Grow IV- Great White Shark

Hi folks,

Wanted to share my latest grow with you all. I have two GHS Great White Shark girls just finishing their 5th week of veg in my small tent setup. I'm planning on flipping to 12/12 next Sunday 4/28.

Some observations for this strain so far:

Grows in a reverse pyramid style. The large fan leaves on top prevent everything below from growing up too quickly. Not sure if I like that haha.

Very short spacing between nodes make for difficult training but will obviously make for a high yielding plant in the end.

Slow but consistent veg so far. I hear they have extreme flower vigor and explode when you flip the switch. Just one week to go till the flip!

Now for some pics.

My two Great White Shark girls coming along nicely. You can see how compact the internodes are.
Both plants displaying nice vigor and little variation in pheno.

I'm loving this strain because of its amazing shade-cloth type fan leaves. I'm not going to fuck with any of these when pruning or in flowering
picture.php

The only reason these shoots are breaking through the canopy is because of my strict LSTing. Otherwise these would be completely covered by these humongous fan leaves.
picture.php

Oh yeah, I'm getting 9 finger leaves already. Hope that's an 11 coming up!

2nd GWS girl. A little bit behind the pace as I damaged one of her cotyledons early in life trying to help her shed her shell. That was a noob moove but she's starting to catch up.

Nothing wrong with those. The big fans will keep the weak stuff down. You can concentrate on nice chunky tops. As always, you've got yourself a couple of healthy little ones there. :D

Exactly mate that's the plan.

I'm going to try to shave these girls' legs once the stretch is over so they can put their energy into making those chunky tops :canabis:

I haven't pruned these girls at all this time around. Thoughts?

Thanks for checking in 5th! I've got a good feeling about this run and I'm glad you're onboard pal :thank you:

That dense growth should payoff in time!

Good luck P

JD

Thanks for the support JD.

I don't know about you but I can't get enough of these mostly indica strains. They are perfectly suited for a cab like mine :blowbubbles:

Hey there tebos, thanks for stopping by :gday:

To answer your question, the bulbs I use are:

1x 130w cool white CFL for veg and then I switch to
1x 250w HPS for flower

The size of my cab is very small so during flower I have to monitor the temperatures from the HPS very carefully.

If you prune most of the tiny shit away (on that shady one) now, maybe a branch set or 2 will poke up through the canopy. Might get you a couple more tops. I usually trim off the 1st few sets of bottom branches in veg 'cause I know that they aint gonna produce. And the rest happens all through stretch. But sometimes I do a little more after the buds set.

Thanks for the advice wg :thank you: In the end I didn't prune anything in this last week of veg but I'm flipping to 12/12 as we speak so I think I will do most of my pruning during the stretch like you mentioned.

I can't wait for these plants to explode over the next few weeks. You don't have this problem but in a cab like mine I will need to be extra vigilant to keep the foliage in check :plant grow:

Thanks for stopping by massud my Italian friend! :gday: I'm very pleased with how these girls are looking too, particularly the large leaves.

I had to use google chrome translate to check out your threads but it looks like you and I are have similar cabinet dimensions actually. I was pleased to see that you've grown the White Rhino out before. Which breeder was the WR from?

Hope to see you here again.

Day 0 12/12

Day 0 12/12

Hi folks,

Well the time has come to flip these two girls to 12/12!

Six weeks seems to be the perfect time to veg in my cab, the plants have only just begun to outgrow the CFL bulb. As I mentioned before, I will be switching to my 250w HPS bulb from here on out. I wanna get chunky nuggage!

I am setting the 12/12 cycle for 6pm on and 6am off each day. This allows me to check the plants as soon as I get home from work and makes sure all the lights are off during the day when I can't monitor the setup.

I might use my bulbs and ballast to finish out this current run and then replace them with new gear after harvest. This same hardware has finished out 3 runs already and still appears to be going strong but better to be safe than sorry eh? What do you guys think?

Pics:

Lush and healthy foliage
Grows in a very deliberate and systematic manner. You can the cycle is always the same. First root exploration then fan leaves, then side branching, then node spacing then repeat etc.

picture.php

Distance between nodes has elongated quite a bit this past week. I'm very happy with the spacing now.

Girl on the right growing solidly
Have only just started to LST her to the side

Comparison Shot:

Sunday 28/4/13- Today
As you can see, girl on the left has gone nuts!

*NB Girl on the right shot up so fast this week I had to remove one of the two encyclopedias underneath her

The small one is getting mega lumens, probably whats keeping her short. Get rid of the other book and she should catch up.

The picture of health they is.

Hi penguin! Yes, I've grown White Rhino 7 years ago, but not in a micro-box, I have used a 400 w hps in a big box :)! Strain came from Nirvana! How does your box weigh? Why don't you take plants one at left and another at right of bulb? I think that you could better use light in this way! One of your plant looks very big and healthy, I hope that it will fills of flowers! Just my 2 cents :2cents:! Bye my friend!

What Massud said makes a ton of sense. Then youre not far from centering that light and going micro-vert!

Day 14 12/12

Day 14 12/12

Hi everyone,

Well week 2 is up and these girls are pushing on to week 3 already.

They've been throwing up tons of pistils on pretty much every node so I'll be on the hunt for trichomes from now on.

I'd say the girls are probably one half to two thirds of the way through their stretch and should have the entire tent filled by the time they hit 9 weeks.

Some Pics:

Have LSTed these girls to grow as close to the walls as possible as the HPS bulb has the highest concentration of heat in the centre of the tent. Something I want to avoid.
picture.php

This girl is enormous
Node spacing has increased significantly

picture.php

This lady still a little bit behind the pace but incredibly healthy nonetheless
picture.php

Pistils forming on each terminal node
The leaf in the centre of the screen is an 11 finger and more of those are on the way!

Moooooore pistillage

Thanks for the tips fellas. I guess great minds think alike because I always centre my bulb when I switch to flower. Just in veg I like to have the bulb concentrated on the horizontal axis :artist:

I'm not sure on the weight of the tent massud but the dimensions are 0.8m (W) x 0.45m (D) x 0.8m (H) if that helps ya! I hope these two fill with flowers very soon too my friend :blowbubbles:
