Bubblehash with an Ultrasonic Toothbrush

as some of you might know i have been trying out different methodes to use my 7 bag bubble bag set. so far me runs have been uesing exclusivley FFT (fresh frozen trim) last time i tried to do this experiment but my ultrasonic toothbrush ran out of juice after only 3 minutes of mixing, so i had to finish off the mixing with the cake mixer.

this time i was better prepared to see what the ultrasonic methode would achieve.

i do want to mention that i've always been happy with my bubble, but its become like an obsession to try and achieve fmcd. which i actualy got with my last run. so i'm very currious to find out how it goes doing a full 15 minute mix with a plastic spoon tapped to an ultrasonic toothbrush. uesing dry trim for the first time lol?

well lets get to the first bach of pics, you'll see what i'm talking about.

















ok time to wait for those trichomes to setle on the screens. i had to use a wooden spoon at the same time as the toothbrush, because the ice was so dense i had to move it away from the plastic spoon so it could do its job. the plan was in case it didn't get enough of the trichomes i could always use the mixer for the second run.

so it seems the dry trim wasn't the best trim i ever had either way. still the results are exceptionaly fine looking, very light in color from the get go. but dry trim means dry trichs which means smaller trichs hence my 190 bag was practicly empty, not that its any great loss, just interesting to note. the 160 has something but again not much really. even the 120 ends up light, the 73 and 45 are the two nicest looking sizes in this batch the 25 looks ok too, very dark.

once again the question that begs;

Do we have FMCD chief?

i have no idea only the smoke test will tell, lol.

i am going to be running a twenty gallon batch myself today using some mangolian indica, bubbleberry and heavy duty fruiyt> will throw up a few pics if i get a chance. Or drop in over at www.treatingyourself.com , i will be in there from 1:20 west coast time, to do a my bubble run on video as well as answer any questions the med users have in regards to producing the ultra dank, FULL MELT CLEAR DOME bubble.

Just out of curiousity, did you put the trim before the water? The reason I ask is because I seem to remember Bubbleman saying something about it being better to put the trim in after the water. I may be mistaken though... Looks killer man! I'm gonna have to try that ultrasonic toothbrush idea...

How do you go from those trichomes you have collected to those gorgeous dense brown balls of hash which bubble when smoked, not burn? I have bubble bags and have collected the hash, but now what, smoke it straight away or try to make it a compact dark brown/black ball? Whats the best way to enjoy it, because in the form you have it on the screens when i put it in my pipe it more slowly burns to a white ash, but I see no bubbles!

Use only resin encrusted bud and bud leaf....excellent quality hash comes from excellent quality bud that has been grown, manicured, dried, cured, handled and stored carefully and correctly with FMCD in mind.....it's difficult to hash good hash from bud that has been sold several times, cut up, moved, bagged, squashed etc
...it's also good to remove stems and resinless leaves...

use more ice and make sure the water is ice cold.

stir with a wooden stick for 10 ~ 15 minutes for quality (& as the first run is purely for quality, it's best to re-run the material again through the bags one more time to reap the rest of the trics, this 2nd run will contain more contaminants, you can use a drill or mixer for the second run.....use lots of ice)

gaius, great idea! I've been thinking about using some kind of vibrating device....you are a step ahead mate. I've come up with another modification though, ---air release--- which vents the built up air from under the bags, so they don't puff out and water spills. I drilled a hole on the bottom side of the bucket then attached a grommet and a fitting, and from that fitting ran a tube up the inside of the bucket to just below the top. this releases all the air for those lower bags that turn into parachutes!

oh and I was wondering, I did a back to back run yesterday...first run went splendid, but the second run ALL came out looking clay in color and a bit less good bubble and a bit more of the higher bags??? not the beautiful browns..ect. same bag of trim, same method? only thing I can think of is, the screens weren't washed between runs.......

any thoughts? and how was the yield of the toothbrush, compared to the mixer?

Nice work gaiusmarius, looking good, a few thoughts though. If you are using a wooden spoon to mix the ice out the way you are missing out on the efficiancy and effectiveness of the idea. You need a big solid and stiff plastic spoon so the ultrasonic vibrations transmit through the spoon, you need to connect it to the toothbrush in as such a way to be able to do all your mixing with it as vigorously as you would with a normal spoon.
This method works like a dream when you get it right and IMO removes as much as an electric whisk.







I have an overlap of about 15 cm and just join with four cable ties and some gaffa tape to stop the ties slipping and to make it more comfatable to hold.
I hold over the join and I am able to mixing in the same way you would normally.
Do yo want me to cut and paste the post I did over at OG ?

nice to see you made it for my ultrasonic bubble sess.....lol. i really love makeing bubble with the 7 bag 20 galllon set. this trim wasn't as ripe as it could have been, but i still got some very fine hash. pity i missed you at treating yourself com, would have been fun, have you got a link for the movie you made? i've been very lucky to have tf to teach me all the ins and outs of geting that fmcd.

you are correct, one has to have a few inches of water above the screen of the working bag before one adds the trim. otherwise there is a danger of contaminents geting through the screens. the thing is the trimm floats thats why it looks like there is no water in that pic, but there is water, lol. i'm still learning about the ultrasonic methode myself but from what i've seen it has amazing potential once one gets it right.

those are two questions really, the first is answered by pressing it. you can with time and hand power work your hash into a compact ball of hash.

but to get hash that bubbles and melts needs very good starting material. some strains just don't produce bubbleing bubble. but try working a small piece of your best bubble hash in your hand for a while and then give it a go in the bong.

basicly the easyest way to smoke your bubble is in the original unprtessed form. its much easyer to deal with. but pressing it does do something as it breaks the trichome heads and causes the oils to come out. basicly i am still learning about this hash makeing methode.

cool that you found your way over to my litle bubble thread. that sounds like an excelent solution for that trapped air, specialy second time round when the canvas is wet it trapps the air inside. although its not such a problem if you don't fill the bucket right to the top, but still great idea man.

hm did you not rinse the bags in the water after takeing the trichomes off? you should alway do that just dip the screen under so the left overs get cought on the next size screen and more importantly your screen stays clean. if the trichs are alowed to dry on the screen i'm sure they will have a negative effect on the overall efficiency of said bags. don't be lazy those bags should be kept in pristine condition, always shower them clean with cold water after a session is done.

ahh this is cool, those are the things i wanted to hear. i was hopeing you'd pop by. i never saw your OG post on the subject that i remember. i would appreciate seeing it. i get what your saying about the mixing i need a proper plastic stiring spoon. i will get it sorted for my next batch. this lot of trim will be fresh frozen and its from fully ripe WW plants, i'm expecting some special results lol. thanks for your help old chap, how about one of your trademark domes for the drool factor and to keep folks happy till i can give it a another go myself.....

well I'm looking for my electric toothbrush as we speak. I know i didn't throw it out! hehe... well gaius, i only have the 5gal 7bag set, so I'm doing a few runs a day. after this, i'm buying the 20 gallon set for sure!!! you know another sad thing about og going down was I had cut and pasted alot of bubble tips from Maximo in my PM's...tisk tisk. down the drain.

does perhaps have a method to attach the plastic spoon to the toothbrush? from what I can tell as well, maybe you could use both spoons, as he claims the plastic should be strong enough to stir as a wooden, BUT I see just tape in his shots????
you could also alternate spoons, not sure if you could reach the bottom with the plastic as well. use the wooden give it a good stir every 5 min.??

also I see with the larger set, you don't need to fill the bucket so high with water...but in the 5 gallon, it's a tight fit!! I"m running 300grms each run.

well gaius I am guilty as charged... I cleaned the screens well after the second run with no permenent damage, but I 'm thinking that was my mistake...oh well I'll do another 2 runs tomorrow!!!!

Re-read my post for clarification, my claims are founded on some fine FMCD so they are more like actual facts than claims really.

it's the durability of the instument which I question esspecially in a 20 gal set, not your quality perhaps.

have you found your toothbrush yet, lol? pity about all those lost tips on Maximos bubble makeing technic. that dude makes fucking awsome looking bubble hash.

i think you might have overlooked the bottom part of his post, there he explains that he uses 4 wire clips and the tape so the wire doesn't slip. he then hold the spoon where it joins the toothbrush to mix. also he's talking about those strong plastic spoons that are used instead of the wooden spoon in a kitchen nowadays. i intend to try it out soon.

i hope you have it sorted with the bags by now. you'll be happy when you have the 20 gallon set. it makes for alot less work in the end.

well i think with the wire clips and holding it at the joining point will do the trick. i saw the right kind of spoon in a store, i just goto get it now so i can try it out ala Perhaps, lol. there is something incredibly satisfieing about makeing fmcd bubble, just the look of it when its melting and bubbleing.....

next will be the smoke test and hopefuly some nice melty shots.
