Orange Blossom X Hawaiian Indica

Hello ICMAG,

This thread will be a mash up of various Orange Blossom X Hawaiian Indica pictures and information.

The Hawaiian male used was a stout indica and the heaviest main stalk brancher I've ever seen. I found it to be hardy against mites and pm going through my rounds to pick a winner. The nuggets from females of the same stock were very large and complete making for massive colas that would finish shy of 10 weeks. It smelled of rotten mix fruit/papaya. The stone was a mid range casual stone, good for morning to mid day activities.

The Orange Blossom Mother used was a hybrid and I believe to be mostly sativa in growth pattern. The Orange Blossom was also very pm resistant. The nuggets were very trichrome rich but they would not fill out a branch enough and you would need to trim down the nugget at harvest. It had a powerful smell of skunk from far away, but when closer you would catch much more of the citrus orange aroma it is named for. The high was really ocular and in your head leaving you confused with a grin.

I dubbed this cross "Vitamin D," the D stands for Dank.

A more hawaiian leaning specimen that took some frost away from her mother, 6 weeks in 12/12

Seedlings of this cross showed unbelievable vigor. When toppled beneath the canopy some would re-root into nearby plugs to gain a better foot hold, illustrated here in this blurry picture.

More information on the way to this thread, after a sandwich.
until then enjoy these pictures!

There were a few problems this run on the Vitamin D but it persevered. These were the conditions that the plants pictured were in until harvest.

P4200806.jpg

Terrible fungus gnat and root aphid problems

P4200805.jpg

Split mainstalk on a choice female.

There were also mites discovered on this crop around week 4.. The plants didnt seem to mind any of this and they went about business as usual. You can see from the pictures before the pull that there are few spots if any that have mites on these girls. Other strains were getting the axe a week after finding the mites in this room. Blueberry and Ace of Spades got the can and the Vitamin D's.. you can see how they turned out below..

That's what the Butane can is for the boys.. You prefer your cans I prefer mine, But if you're having trouble making the connection from your way to my way the top rim of a can is about the same diameter as the butane can. Let me know if that helps. :smokeit:

A more hawaiian leaning nugget

P5051079.jpg

An Orange leaning nugget

The buds had the same bag presence as the Orange Blossom, HEAVY STINKER. When you got up close there were some rotting tones and some creaminess. Some of the girls were almost straight skunk smelling while the more hawaiian of the plants retained a more subtle aroma.

Even the males of this cross had that reeking smell. About 1 out of 10 had a smell like a rotting animal or a cheesy foot. About 5 out of 10 plants smelled of true skunk. 1 out of 10 leaned more towards the Orange in bud structure and 3 out of 10 leaned more towards the sweet/rotten orange terpene profile.

Thank you friend, There is more Vitamin D in the works now and I should have more pictures up throughout the summer. I've got big plans for this cross so stay tuned and I'll try to make it worth reading.

Also please excuse my terrible pictures I had just smoked a pretty heavy hit of some oil and nothing was in focus IRL let alone with the camera :whee:

This Orange Blossom was a very good sample. Finished on time, flushed properly and trimmed perfectly. The bowl was mouth watering and not flat almost down to the ash. Writing this review is getting more and more difficult. Powerful stone on this one that leaves you in a daze!

Notes from recent run of 12 seeds; Males:

Of 12 seeds popped, 7 were males upon inspection. Of the 7 males, one was deemed unfit due to stress in an untested medium (cedargrove compost 3 gallon plastic pot.). This plant was a Hawaiian leaning male, showing few- if any - Orange Blossom traits. The remaining 6 plants are in 1 gallon plastic pots in Royal Gold Basement Mix.

Male plants started on a water only feed on June 20th.

Of the 6 males 3 were Orange Blossom leaning and 3 were Hawaiian leaning in growth structure.

6 of 6 male plants largest fan leaves changed colors from green to lavender /burgundy when exposed to cold temps. The Hawaiians showed color change after 2 nights of cold temps outdoors. The Orange Blossom leaning plants were the slowest to turn approx. 4 days behind the others. I believe this trait came from the Hawaiian Indica used in the cross, and seems to be mostly dominant.

Of the 3 Hawaiian leaning males, all 3 leaf shapes and size were identical. Of the plants frames 1 was stacked up and did not focus beyond its main cola. This phenos inter node spacing was very compact, averaging less than an inch between nodes. 2 had slightly elongated inter node spacing, these 2 also had more focus on branches beyond their main cola.

One of the heavier branching Hawaiian males had a strong skunky, cheese, foot aroma throughout veg. Adult slugs were often found on this plant.

One of the heavier branching Hawaiian males had a subtle green smell with citrus undertones. Baby slugs loved to eat this one.

The Most Hawaiian leaning male had a subtle green smell with rotten fruit undertones, slugs were found occasionally but not often.

3 of 6 Hawaiian leaning males showed N deficiency 2 weeks after water flush began.

Of the Orange Blossom leaning males all three showed the same hybrid Sativa/indica growth pattern. 2 of the 3 had leaves the same shape as the Orange Blossom mother, while 1 retained the leaf shape from it's Hawaiian father.

1 of the Orange Blossom leaning males had a strong skunky presence and citrus undertones. baby slugs liked this one but not the adults

2 of the 3 Orange Blossom Leaning males (OB1&OBH) had a strong citrus aroma with skunky undertones. Both adult slugs and baby slugs liked these plants.

1 of the 3 Orange Blossom Leaning males (OB1) started showing signs of a magnesium deficiency 1 week after water flush began.

3 of 3 of the Orange Blossom Leaning males showed signs of a Nitrogen deficiency after 2 weeks after water only flush began.

Stress testing showed that of the males sampled 3 of 6 did not respond well to super cropping, those 3 were the most Hawaiian leaning males. They bounced right out of it daily. 3 of 6 Orange Blossom leaning males recovered but also diverted more energy to their lower branches.

6 of 6 had hollow stems.

----------------------

Based on my findings I am holding onto this male, we'll call him OB2:

1 of the Orange Blossom leaning males had a strong skunky presence and citrus undertones. baby slugs liked this one but not the adults

and also Male OB1.

Future projects to come for sure, With a male like OB1 I should be able to rework the Orange Blossom, making it available in seed form. The OB2 male is a bit different in smell, I have never encountered such a stinky male. This whole batch of guys had a certain stink to it, but I could smell my OB from 50 yards out. Not bad for a vegging male.

So, I decided to use Stinky male (OB2) in a few crosses after I took those notes. I am running a small cab grow of mister OB2 now, hes 2 weeks into flower and already throwing clouds of pollen.

The girls that get his seed:
Purple Berry bx (Purple berry X Blueberry indica) Blueberry indica leaning
BOG (Sour Strawberry Kush X Bluemoon Rocks) Bluemoonrocks leaning
Chester's Beard (Oaxacan X Diesel X Hawaiian) Oaxacan/deisel leaning

The BOG and Chester's beard were chosen for intensity of smell, both have a very heavy presence just like the OB2. I really only picked the Chesters beard out because I want to do some good ol pheno hunting later on. This plant also started on a 5 leaf set, that's right 5 from the little round leaf? what? Something worth finding in there I'd bet.

The Purple Berry was chosen because it is known to transfer mainly it's color only on the cross. I believe the Purple Berry will pick up some yeild and frost from this cross, hopefully it picks up some stank from the father but time will tell how stable that trait is.

Purple Berry Bx is the farthest along so far, hairs are receding and the bracts are fattening.
Turned purple from day 4 caused by bomb ass genetics

Getting frosty.

The BOG is a little behind but eager to bear fruit.

The Chester's beard ironically doesn't have a hair on it.

The original male used in the Vitamin D cross was very resilient, and so I was looking for a plant that could withstand something like a slug attack. I didn't loose any to them. All of the plants bounced out of the attack rather well, the new male used was an interesting case because I would find baby slugs up and down it's stem, but not on the leaves, they hardly bit him up at all.

I removed the Male from my project today, I am going to do a quick reveg on him and get him nice and plump in case he turns out to be a good choice. Needless to say I let him flower for only about ~22 days and not only did I pollinate these plants and get a good amount of pollen, but his dried flowers have a nice stenchy- presence to them. They were stinking up the room I had them drying in like some quality herb.

The girls are fattening up quick. I gave them some phosophload yesterday and they explode in growth on the hour. I've never seen a seed develop so quickly. Now that I have figured out most of my camera I'll be taking good photos to document the process.

As soon as these seeds are ready I will be doing a run, side by side, with the Vitamin D and the Purple Berry bx X Vitamin D.

Purple Berry bx you recognize I'm sure GO.

Some Vitamin D plants in this cross showed intersex expression traits under severe stress (that's what I'm calling the last run of these) and It will be interesting to see these in favorable conditions in a side by side. I'm really interested to see how the PB influences the genetics of the Vitamin D.

The Chester's Beard turned out to be a male, after almost 4 weeks of flowering :jawdrop:

This is how it goes when flowering straight from seed. He had a good start with his 5 finger sets, so I believe I will be keeping him around for a Chester's Beard bx, he's got some Oaxacan in him for sure with a flowering time like this. I have a nice and rank, red leafed Hawaiian leaning CB ready to get seeded . I have a Blackberry (possibly blackberry kush?) and a White Fire that will be in the mix with them this run. I don't want to start a new thread for these..so I will probably just keep it here..who knows.

As for Purple Berry bx and BOG, I moved them to a greenhouse outside to finish seed production. These seeds are too big for the BOG, some are dangling out of the calyxes more then 2/3. The PB swelled up in unison with the seeds, but as time goes by I have noticed some Purple/pink tones developing in the mature seeds. Will throw some pictures up asap.
