Possible consequences of a lost iphone?

I lost my iphone yesterday while at the post office. That in itself sucks enough, but I'm wondering how much I may have compromised myself in doing so.

I knew within 5 minutes that it was gone, went everywhere I had been, and for the next hour was calling it constantly. No answer. left messages. Nothing.

Realizing that there was certainly potential compromising information on that phone such as websites visited, access to my email which would contain orders i've made, I called AT&T and disconnected service within an hour of losing it. Also changed my email password.

But there still is potentially compromising info on that phone. My 'contacts' for one. Text messages. Nothing too revealing but a smart person might realize I 'hang out' with a lot of people for specific periods of time. 'Hour' 'Half Hour' etc. Also, I'm pretty sure I erased all (but maybe not) bud shots or shots of seed packs from it. If there is anything it is only a couple pic among a hundred others stored on it.

I learned a lot from this. Your phone is a computer and must be protected. I will have no pics of this part of my life on my new phone. Also I'm getting the app installed that will remotely erase anything and everything in the case it is stolen.

A part of me thinks the chances are someone took it, will erase whatever is on it, and will either try to sell it or use it themselves. But on the other hand I find I can't get the possible scenarios out of my head of what could happen because of this.

Your thoughts?

depends on who found the phone really.

iPhones can store a LOT of info you dont even know they have, GPS location on pix etc etc etc.

why isn't your phone password locked? thats the first thing I set up on a phone.

funny you 'hang out' for 'half hours' or so or maybe a '20 min break'. I've used that for a while now ;)

ever since I got pulled over and had a cop go thru my phone when I was a kid I just dont fuck with em a whole lot anymore. Short n sweet calls are all.

NO TEXT MESSAGES EVER,

I dont care if someone can diligently erase every incriminating message, the people you deal with probably wont and that will be the achilles heel to an otherwise good running op.

I didn't password lock it really more because of convenience. I always have my phone close at hand and didn't think I would lose it.

That's a good rule about texts. I think I may have to adopt that one.

Thanks.

It's probably crushed by a car tire in a parking lot and nobody can do anything on it or see any of your stuff man. Don't worry about it there is nothing you can do now so out of sight, out of mind. Be more careful next time and always always always make sure you have your phone at all times and check frequently that it's still there in your pocket, ect.

Good luck with this situation, it's a hard one been through it myself. You'll be okay. :)

yea i hate phones....on my phone connected to my name i only have pictures of my pets. and i erase text messages a few times a day. my buddy was pulled over in norcal and the cops went through his phone....he had some texts about buds and they were calling him a drug dealer but in the end just gave him a ticket.

all incriminating stuff goes to the ghettro pcs under a fake name....and that one gets dumped every month or so.

Motorola offers remote erasing and tracking of android phones. I know this does not help now, but if you decide to get a new phone....

Well although the post office is probably the worst place to lose a phone being as it is a government establishment, workers would probably go through information to identify the owner of the phone by any means possible, and with that being said would probably also report any suspicious activity...............but, depending on where you are, theres a good chance somebody at the post office found it and slipped it in their pocket, in that case, no worries.....in my area, the phone would definitely be stolen rather than given back with hopes of returning it to the owner...i wouldnt worry too much, nothing will come of it.

I can't believe cops went through your phone when you got pulled over. What the fuck is that? Is that legal for them to do? Especially if you haven't been arrested they have no right. I can understand searching you for drugs or weapons if there's reasonable suspicion, but there ain't no drugs or weapons in a cell phone. Wow fucking goddamn pigs. OK that's it my new phone is getting locked.

The post office wasn't technically open. If you slide a credit card through you can get in to an area where there is a drop box and machine where you can create labels for priority mail. So, no employees there and I ran into a friend who was able to call while I was inside, so if it was anywhere in there I would have heard it. Someone took it out, or I dropped it getting into/out of my car.

Also, considering the area it was located, I'd say there was a 50/50 chance of someone without a lot of integrity finding it.

If a good person found it I would think they would've answered when I called. At least that's the logic I'm using to not freak out. Bottom line is that if it fell into the wrong hands I could easily be screwed.

Yeah i wouldnt sweat it. If the wrong person finds it youll know immedaitely once youre contacted. To calm your worries, its probably best if you never hear of it again if you think there may be incrimincating evidence. Plus, if some random person does find it, they'll probably delete everything immediately so they think its a new clean phone.

Of course having nothing on your phone is best...but, text messages are the hardest thing for them to use against you, as long as you don't cop to sending it-- It is VERY difficult to prove somebody sent a text, even if it is their phone-- Anybody could send a text on your phone without your knowledge--
It is all about Reasonable Doubt...and there is a lot of that, when dealing with text msgs--:tiphat:

Update! I got busted!!!!!!!!

Update! I got busted!!!!!!!!

Got busted today.

It was all because of that fucking iphone. Someone turned it in to the police as a lost phone. In an attempt to find out its owner they went through it and found a video I had taken a while ago and forgotten to erase.

DEA came to my house. Charged with cultivation.

That sure is a drag, jedimike ! No looking back, what's done is done. You might want to edit the paragraph after the charges, but that's me.
Good luck, bro!
