HDF

I found a pheno in my HDF that is sooo special, IMO, that I thought I should do a report on it.

But before I go any further I should say this- I started with 12 seeds, 9 turned out to be girls, 2 guys and one full-on hemaphrodite(sp?).
Out of the 9 girls there was H U G E variation. With 2 phenos finishing in 6-7 weeks, one finishing at 16ish weeks and everything in between. Taste also varied imensly- One pheno tasted like DIRT, a couple like a very weak skunk and the rest a fruity taste/smell to some degree, some more skunky and some sickly sweet.

I really am not sure what RM was shooting for when he worked with this so I don't know if the pheno I kept is what he considers to be a good representation of HDF, but if I didn't get this one I would consider it a complete waste of time. The rest sucked ass with the exception of the 16 weeker and it just takes too long for what it is. So really couldn't recommend this because it seems the chances of finding something worth keeping are not good. However this pheno is some of the, if not THE finest pot I've ever had the pleasure of seeing/smoking

Having said that, lets get on with it.....
This plant takes 12 weeks to finish, at 10 weeks she is still mostly gorgeous green, but after 2 weeks of flushing she transforms to a brilliant burgandy/purple. The smell is best described as coffee/skunk/over-ripe fruit. And the taste the same. Ohh its delicious!. After a couple of bongs, it hits you right in the head (and the body) and while it won't send you to sleep ( unless you smoke too much) it tends to make a mess of any plans that were in the works. I can still think clearly, I just don't wanna do anything.
Here are some pics of her developing and when the clone I have now is dry I'll add some dry bud shots.
Enjoy

Heavy Duty Fruity?

A pal grew HDF from THSeeds and he had a great M/F ratio too, but complained that all the plants were very different and the finish times were from 50 days to one sativa pheno that woulda needed like 80+ days to finish.

He had one all purple pheno tho, that has to be on top 3 list of the weeds i smoked this year, very potent and fruity.

Anyways, yer plants look great man!
Yer gonna have a big ass fruity harvest there buddy, good job :lurk: :yoinks:

Hi BadTicket,
Thank for the compliment and the info too.
So it seems the variation isn't exclusive to Reeferman's HDF
I wonder if anyone else has grown HDF of some type and can confirm or deny this?

Thanks timtim,
HDF is another of those strains that sounds really tempting, but it's always nice to hear from someone in the know before buying. Ya saved me some cash there, time too, now I'll use the space for something else, thanks again.

I guess the nays outweighed the yeahs because Reef pulled the HDF from his lineup [ I think back in Oct ] and is no longer offering them. His words were that it didnt meet up to his standards so he shelved the genetics.

Timtim this is an amazing example of not harvesting too early and being patient. I have have seen so many people harvest at your 9 and 10 week photos but look what waiting did for you. Those colors of buds and leaves are perfect with so many trichs its silly..

Nice plants timtim. Its is just amazing how plants can transform so dramatically during each stage of budding. The purpling is just amazing. I heard may good things about HDF, but never planted it myself. After your reading your smoke report, it seems like a nice strain to play around with if one have time and space.
Nice smoke report timtim
peace

strain_searcher- Thanks for the compliments, patience is a virtue which I sometimes have trouble with, but I managed to control myself..lol

clearcutter- Thanks for stopping by, I'm glad you liked what you seen!

Tropical Treats- Keep the praise coming!..lol But you do bring up an interesting point. I was pondering last night whether this chick would be a worthy candidate for breeding. I would like to shorten the flower time and try and stabilize this pheno. But only time will tell, I guess and besides that I need to find a worthy male candidate first. Maybe my new seedlings will hold the prize I'm looking for.

Here you go, as promised, some pics of dry buds!

She got just over 1.5 oz on her. So she looks like she will be a fat yeilder too :woohoo: I plan to grow clones the same size as this at 16/m2. So I should be looking at about 1.5 lbs/m2 or 600w light.

Thanks Timtim, it's nice to know the skinny on the HDF. It's a damm good thing that you found that one. May not be the strain for me though, That strains is too varied. Your info helps immensely.

Nice report timtim HDF sounds like a nice strain, if you find a good pheno. The variation makes these sound like f2's...

Thanks for stopping by guys,
I gotta agree. I would not recommend growing this strain.
After seeing the results I got, I gotta say I reckon the chances of finding something worth keeping are SLIM at best. As for being f2's they very well could be, they showed enough variation. But I doubt Reeferman would knowingly sell them? :chin: I could be wrong. Verite did say he pulled the line though, so there's gotta be a reason. I'm just glad I found this GEM.

You said it yourself, You found a winner with that keeper HDF man...even if you found a bunch of loosers, I would rather get 9 loosers and 1 super winner, than to get 10 pretty good plants. I keep going back to those pics...

I couldn't agree more, Sunnyside. But not everyone has alot of room to play with, and I guess in those cases every plant counts. So maybe 10 reasonable plants are better than 9 crap ones and 1 GEM, but not for me I'd rather take the risk, like you.
Now, having said that if I were to grow this again from seed, I reckon I'd do at least 2 packs, just to increase my chances, cos, as I said, it doesn't seem likely that this pheno would pop up very often.

TAKS- Thanks for the kind words. I'd be interested to try THseeds version one day to see how similar they are, sounds like they yielded well for you.

3legdog- Always a pleasure to have a grower of your calibur stop by and offer a compliment.Thanks. I've been checking out your Burmese too, it looks unreal. Do I remember you saying you were making seeds with them?
