I thought I would share my latest addition. Don't know if anyone has done this yet. Would like to see other similar remote sensors.

wireless security

wireless security

When setting up something like this be sure you know a bit about wireless and overall network security. Be sure your home network is protected with the strongest WPA2-PSK fully random full length password. The router admin as well should be protected with the strongest possible password. For remote away-from-home monitoring, your network should be accessed only through encrypted VPN or SSH tunnel or VPN over SSH to be extra sure. If you don't know how to configure this stuff better ask-a-geek.

Nice setup K33.
I run a program called iCam (I think it was $2.99) on my iPhone. It connects to a server in my house (macMini, running 10.6 desktop, and iCam's free server software) that is connected to a USB cam. Program supports both USB based, and IP based cams. Once it's set up, no images ever touch a 3rd party server, only the initial handshake. iCam supports 4 cameras, and they make a pro version that supports 16. I can even have it record motion events, and email them to me. Viewer is available on the iPhone/iPad, and in a web browser. It's password encrypted, so (kinda) secure.

Does that Hanna unit have the ability to output (like over a serial cable) the meter readings? I'd love to have something setup that would notify me when levels were out of range. Being able to check into things is nice, but being notified of the problem, before it gets out of hand, is awesome. I have the PC end sorted out, and have a few program ideas, but nothing in hand yet. Dreaming of the fully-automated setup.

I don't think this unit has any ability for serial output but I may search for something like that. Dosing units and anything more sophisticated than this gets very expensive.

I'm already liking having continuous access to my readings. I can watch it's gradual drop instead of seeing it in big steps over a day or two when I would get around to manually checking.
