Vertical MADNESS!!!

Hey boys and girls, old uncle is kicking it new school for a client of mine. He asked me do design of a kick ass flip/flop system for a detached garage with limited amount of power running to it (less then 4k all power included). Here is what i came up with, it's not perfect, but as a added bonus he is willing to let me experiment, and improve on it from crop to crop.

So with out further delay on with the details and the show...

This system is a hanging vertical design that can be opened and shut for plant maintenance. It is composed of 4" pvc pipe and 22.5deg. 2" elbows (abs) to fit the 2" net cups. The plants are held in place by neoprene cut out of flooring squares. As the plants get bigger/heaver they are supported by the safety screen around the lights (which also keeps them from getting to close.) Three 600 watt hps bulbs are strung together with threaded rod, and attached to a light mover that moves the bulbs up and down (one room lights go up, the other down to balance the load).

contactor board and flip/flop board, wires need to be clean up yet, WAY too messy! lol

20 gallon pressure tanks, filled by shurflo 120v pumps 30-50 psi range. pressure is released via 2 solenoid valves controlled by a electronic timer.

Electronic timer, can control up to 6 valves!!!

Cancool chiller, made right in canada! OH YA!!! I believe they are 14000 btu... Notice there is no thermostat on them, i have another use for them since i am controlling them with sentinel controllers... more on that later.

Advanced nutrients water cooled CO2 generator, this thing works AWESOME!!!

This gives you a idea as to how the co2 generator was plumbed up. Notice the rain barrel, at the far right is the hose coming down from the ceiling from the drain of the chiller. I drilled a hole and installed a through hull in about 1' off the ground (to give a certain hight so the pump inside always has water to run.) The next 2 lines are the line from the pump in the barrel to the co2 unit and the next one the run off line. The line out the from of the barrel is drained outside.

The rooms are sealed and cooled with water cooled heat exchangers (mini splits would be preferred but power was a issue) dehumidifier keeps the moisture in check, co2 is provided by a water cooled co2 unit that uses the waist water from the chillers. The water from the dehumidifier is channeled back to the rez per room.

Smell is taken care via 4' carbon filters and small air tiger ozone machines set on a 30min on/off cycle (to clean up any remaining smells)

The tubes are low pressure aeroponic, set to a 5 second spray and 5 minutes off, recirculated back to the rez. Extra water is provided via a RO water unit, for rez changes and top up.

The tubes are hung for easy cleaning under the system (simple broom clean up once a week)

ohh and the thermostats from the cancool units... I wired them up to a relay that will shut the power off to the lights if the temperature rises above 100deg, lights come back on at 80deg. (never know when your going to have a water flow problem!)

I am biased but i think it is pretty dam cool, but there are still things that need to be done and improvements to be made in the coming months.

Hope you enjoy the show, if you like what you see, slide me some karma, and if you have any questions fire away.

FREEDOM!!!

P.s. even bought a new camera for the occasion... check out the model #...lol FATE!!!

Hey, Uncle Freedom. Links are not working. Not for me at least. Sounds like a great setup though! Good luck!

Ok fixed it i think...lol...stupid computers...

ok week 1 just after plants were put in.

The veg and clone area...

Plants are vegged till they get a little tall then the tops are cut off and cloned for the next batch. This gives a nice full plant to fill up the 48 plant system, and cuts down on moms.

The storage rack..

keep things in a easy reach!

The RO filter, pumps up into a storage tote with a float valve. A ball valve and a hose is used to fill the rez's

Gotta have clean water!!!

Well Unc.........gotta show respect for all those DIY skills that`s fer damn sure.........

You said it could be opened up ta work the plants , but didn`t notice any type of covering.......

I was hoping yas had some type of reflectix or panda curtain ta go round that bad boy to trap and reflect back at the plants instead of all those lumens blastin right past the plants out into that open area during lights on........

Could be let down lights off for more airflow and reduced possible condensation from increased humidity , but......lotta light bein wasted if that`s how it`s bein run lights on IME....

I ran 3-600`s on top of each other with 4 walls with 4 angled shelves/racks per wall with 4 plants per rack for a total of 64 plants in flip rooms with an inside area of 6 x 6 and angled corners covering everything in reflectix that wasn`t green.....

DTW coco 5 gal smartpots fed twice daily in late flower.....pretty simple...worked well for almost 3 yrs before shutdown....Your setup looks awful advanced and hopefully will yield to boot......

I never caged the lights , but rather hung nortinova for the end colas to rest on till chop.......

Good luck and thanks for the show.....Awesome DIY.....

Peace.....DHF......:ying:.......

Hey dudes thanks for the replies...

The system looks like it is waisting light right now but give her time she will fill up and soon it will be tough to see any light escaping! Plus you want lots of air flow (he has a oscillating fan on each side) you need lots of air movement to not only strengthen the plans but to move the CO2 over the leave so it can be absorbed.

I choose aeroponics (besides the fact i love a challenge) because my friend live far away from a grow shop, and would prefer to not make frequent trips for growing media. Simply put after each run he just has to power wash the tubes change/clean the misters, wash the neoprene and net cups and start again. No mess to throw out.

Another good thing about aeroponics is your rez temperature can rise above normal (as it has done this summer) as long as you use beneficials or something like flora shield you have no worries about root rot. You see a big problem with regular hydroponics or DWC is when the solution gets warm it loses it ability to hold oxygen. With aeroponics that is not a issue (i do not even need a air stone in the rez if i choose not to) The plants get the oxygen from being suspended in air, and then moistened with nutes (ie never drown)

Hope that helps

ya my fav part of aero is the easy cleanup too, can have it clean and ready for next one in under hour

I agree with DHF though....eventually it will fill up but and not let that much light out but if you use some type of refelection now it will fill up way quicker...you can add up to 30% more light just by reflecting it back

without it your outer braches are going to be turning towards the light and curving inwards but if you use it the plants will spread themselves out better covering more surface area

just my .02

sweet setup

Looking great bro, I'm gonna tag along. There has certainly been a lot of investment in this grow, wishing you all the best for it.

End of week 2

Now these girls are rocking.... notice how much less light is being waisted...

I forgot to say this run is 2 tubes of Apollo 11, and 6 tubes of bc big bud x Chemo.

Full shot...

Close ups of the Apollo 11, it is such a amazing plant can't wait to flower... so quick!

The suspended fan...

I like how you have the fan hanging from the cage. I took the leg part off of mine too(simply was taking up too much space), but having it hang would let you "tune" the cooling effect it has(even low seems a little high, at least for me)

Love this Freedom really well done. Now you just need to grow and I'm sure you will fix any problems you run into if this is your prototype bro peace out Headband707
