first off hello icmag this is my first post so i thought i would start off here @ icmag with a small tech write up on how El Blastido did his verticle aircooled lights .
i have seen other write ups on this same subject but this is how i did it and hopefully it will be useful to someone here .
first off the reason for doing a verticle light set-up was to provide a cooled light source for a verticle octagon i just built .
because no one had a ready made verticle light set up in stock available , i needed to build one.
i am the type person that hates special ordering something without seeing it first.
so i found these horizontal aircooled tubes with a bat wing reflector for $130 each
now joining these two is no problem except for my application it spread the lights too far from eachother , i needed to shorten the length .
what i did was pull the end from the glass tube on both tubes , they are only sillyconed on .
i now needed to join the two bare glass ends together .
i used a 6" no hub pipe connector . available at any plumbing supply
the connector was made for 6" pipe so the id was bigger than the od of the glass tube so the gasket was cut to fit , then wrapped around the glass and then the sleeve was tightened just to snug to look like this
next was how to stand it up or hang it , standing this up did not make sense to me as it could be knocked over so it was my descion to hang it .
on the aluminum ends were holes already drilled for the reflector that came with the tubes .
i used eyebolts through these holes like this
and then using some scrap aluminum laying around i made a spreader for the chain to make room for the ducting . the chain hanger is very simple as you can see from this pic
all in all a very easy way to build and hang your cool tubes in a secure manor
there you have it the El Blastido way of vert lighting
