Yellowing Leaves 5th Week Flowering

Hey ICMAG,

So as i indicated in the title, im in the 5th week of flowering, have been using FF Grow entire grow since 2 weeks in, up to 1tsp per gal feeding right now.

Within the last week, the tips of the bigger leaves started curling and then purpling, followed by the entire leave getting shaded purple and yellowing out. This started on the biggest leaves of one plant like a week ago, but now i can see it starting on all plants (3 total plants).

Not sure if this is just natural, but doesnt really seem like the buds are ready at just 5 weeks into flower.

Here are 2 pics of the yellow leaves, and main cola of plant w biggest leaves to show rest of the plant seems healthy.

buds look rather nice tho :)

There is no info on this grow so i cant really come with any suggestions, i need ph, medium, etc etc.

If this was in hydro i would say add some cal/mag or give em a sprout of veg nutes. Spout is here defined in ammount not in you should be misting the plants, so dont spray anything on your plants :p But anyway give more info and perhaps people could help.

Tho it should be noted that its quite common for strains to have some of the lower fan leaves die off in the process, as said before and should be used as another reason not to cut off fan leaves, the plants will use the stored energy in the fan leaves to boost their sugar levels, this can be avoided tho by molasses or veg nutes, it have atleast in my case tho i am sure there are other way to do this aswell. However as the plant grows old so does the roots and their ability to take up nutes, so if this will work is guesswork since its strain dependant and whatnot else of factors. However i am not sure your yield is affected by this.

Natural. You've only got a few more weeks so the plant is naturally flushing itself. FFOF also run out of nutes in flower pretty quick, not that much phosphorus or nitrogen in the mix, I always amend FFOF, even when using a new bag. I'm two weeks out from harvesting my SD's and all their fan leaves have either fallen off or yellowed out. I used to pump em with nutes when this would happen but honestly I've never had any yeild problems since letting them naturally flush and the buds taste soooo much better and smoother. I hate seeing people with dark green plants at harvest, all you're doing is smoking a bunch of chlorophyll and nutes. 2-3 weeks out is when you wanna start to see yellowing.

thanks for the advice guys!

I have actually been having really low temps at night (around 60) so that could explain a little bit.

Yea, I know i see people's "harvest" pics and there isn't a single yellow leaf and then see others who have no green fan leaves left on them.

Well, i guess i'll just hope for the best and chop in a cpl weeks. Cheers! :smokeit:

Are you only using FF Grow Big? Sounds like a P deficiency.

low temps can, but 5th week of flowering yellowing leaves is completely normal and you want this to happen, cause the plant is using last stored nutes, kinda like corn when it's near harvest time.

Would not do anything to fix it, except raise the temps slightly...... cooler temps cause slower metabolism, smaller bud size, but it can bring out color changing in strains that has color changing genes.

jim: thanks for stoppin by! yep, just using FF grow big (don't have any bloom and was too paranoid to go back to the grow shop by me for it after forgetting it the first time). I was thinking maybe P def too, but then thought maybe just natural timing thing. :dunno:

MynameStitch: funny you mention corn as that is exactly what it reminded me of when i've seen other people's plants in late stages with browning leaves  Thanks for the tip about heat: I wasn't sure if it was getting too cold or not but can def take care of that.

perfect reply Stitch, couldn't have said it better.:whistling:

yeah your plants are sending all energy to the buds and using up stored resources in the leaves. if you add nitrogen, you run the risk of creating nanners. you might try adding a little molasses to your water. maybe 1 tablespoon per gallon.

I have the same problem with FF nutes, though I usually am in coco. I have found their schedule to be slightly off in this regard.

If you don't want to go back to the store, the internet works. I use all 3 and Cha-Ching and still get this in moderate amounts. I also have lower night temps, but not as low as you.

I wouldn't worry. Also, there is a great book that can help for quick ref. called "The Marijuana Garden Saver". It's gotten me out of a jam or two.

Nice bud for only Grow Big. :D

I agree with Stitchy 100% (as usual :) Stop the grow, let em yellow - your bud will taste smoother and cleaner when you smoke it. Excess nitrogen and nutes tastes like dirt in the weed.

You rock, Stitch!

thanks again for all the replies guys! looooove me some ICMAG!!!

the 2 indicas i have are the ones with leaves starting to yellow badly, so starting to flush them tomorrow for ~2 weeks and then 2 days in the dark. going to give the sativa (not pictured) a few more shots of big bud and then a couple week flush as well.

I got the impression that this is your first grow(or close to it). If that is the case, those buds are bangin! Nice work!

Like others have said, it's nothing to worry about. Just some nitrogen fade towards the end of flower. Next time maybe feed a bit more, otherwise don't worry about it.

edit: by "next time" I mean next cycle, not next watering... flush em good and give em carbs...
