hey all thought i might share my trip to Costa Rica with ya:D

friends here invited me and my old lady to go to Costa Rica with um, since i had a good online friend there, thought i might go and meet with him, as we never met and been keepin in touch online for well over 8 years now.

so we got a smokin deal round trip, 270.00, and said fook it were gone:D

my very good friend in country met us all(6) at the airport in San Jose and we all piled in his jungle rig, first stop was for cold beer, the humidity was meltin all the High country crew. Imperial was the beer of choice, La Cervesa De Costa Rica.

we wondered around and around, lol, San Jose tryin to get outta town, huntin beers, and generally gawkin all over. we missed a bent and twisted sign, otherwise we were into the mountains pretty quick, reminded me of gorillas in the mist. foggy, cool, and wild.

drivin or ridin the roads and highways of CR is another trip all together, double yellows, yield signs all that means about nothin, its a giant well coordinated clusterfuck. hang on:D

thank god, Tomas, will call my very good friend in country:D had a few numbers ready to burn, and the ride to hermosa beach was excellent, and the bud very nice.

few shots of the steep slopes goin over the mountains to the coast, people harvest the coffee beans off these slopes hangin on ropes. i dont know how homes stay put.

i had been forwarned by Tomas that when in his town my money was no good, and he put us in a awesome condo on the beach, first nite man he had a world class shusi chef come over and make us dinner.

best meal of the whole trip, agreed by all. wife already said when we return Rudi's on us:D
world class surfin shusi chef:woohoo:

some shots of the really nice digs, and the black sand beach of playa hermosa.

hermosa is a world class surfin break, and they have a huge surf competion there every year as well. i did a bit of surfin back in the day, i went out on a boogie board one mornin, got rolled tossed and some road rash by the time i made it to shore with my last breath bubblin out in the wet sand.

when they say a world class break, that also comes with a serious rip tide, and mean water. they call the place "the washin machine" i got spun and spit out, lolz.

pics dont due the size justice, for me it was fookin huge.

hey all thanks for checkin in,

mike, we didnt get any local smoke on the pacific side as Tomas hooked us with a big sack of indoor his friend grows. kinda crazy there, as with the high humidity ya wanna keep your sack closed, hehe, i had opened it to dry a bit more and all it did was get wetter, caught a ass chewin from Tomas, lol.

a/c is a must i guess if ya wanna dry your weed enough to roll.

Rootwise you have no idea bro, Tomas hooked us up big, we bought some booze, and dinner one night, otherwise it was a free ride on him, ill never be able to thank him enough for makin a great landin, and haulin are asses all over the country. hopefully in the future we spend much more time together, and even get involved in seed together. hes huntin me a place close enough to walk to the beach, wife says its gotta be with in 15 mins walkin distance and shes good to go.

malaria, used to try to surf many years ago, had a few logs. im an old mofo and truely outta shape as far as swimmin in that turbulent surf. take a bit to get back to it.

snaglepuss, you are right, as im standin at the parkin access takin that pic, you must visit regular.

so..................

we spent 2 nights on the pacific, party till the ankles swelled, lol. we all wished we had spent more time there, but was time to move on to the caribe side, way down south in rasta country where are other host awaited are arrival.

Tomas bein the very best friend i guy could hook up with, crusied us all the way, 6 hrs coast to coast, had to pull over and check out the crocs, whole damn bunch of um, we were way safe up on a bridge. couple were pushin 20+ foot.

shot is headed outta jaco(haco)

long cruise, many stops for beer and banos:D once over the mountains, ya drop down to flat country, with banana and pineapple plantations as far as ya can see. and humidity to choke a horse, thick heavy air.

once we turned south at puerta Limon, we were in another world, slower, laidback, no rush, the road continually got worse from potholed pavement to potholed dirt, still a highway on the map, was a dirt/gravel off road ride. and yes traffic was still the same, ya just had some serious pucker goin on.

we stayed at the arriceffe lodge, Punta uva(grape point)basic accomidations and the coolest Rastaman and his wife you will meet. one of those guys ya just cant help likein. was his dads place, and hes tryin to make a go of it.

picture.php

there was 2 of these 4 room cabinas, and the owners main house with a rental above. we paid 40 a night, double and breakfast for 2. breakfast was 2 eggs, red beans and rice(awesome) toast and bacon, with a dip in the carribean when all full up.

i took a beach hike early every morn, as everyone else was still cashed at O'dark thirty. took advantage of the free ocean kayaks, they had singles which i used by myself and rode the waves, much easier then the pacific side. and had a double which the wife really enjoyed, of course i paddled while see sunned herself, which wasnt all bad, she looked great all lathered up on the front laid out in the sun on the carribean, just didnt get much better then that. even had cup holders to keep my beer within reach:D

heres the local time keeper, Howler monkey, who sounds 10 times as big as he is. awesome sound from these monkeys when your out in the jungle and they really get goin, freakin prehistoric.

there hollerin early am, siesta all day, then late afternoon till dark. thats all the time keepin we needed.

picture.php

again when we hit the caribe the party was on, i made it 2 days and again the ankles were swelled to the point i thought they may pop. that was it for me, pretty much stayed stoned on some hash i was told came from CA. didnt care got me toasted, and the local black nasty jamacian i smoked once, got a mean ass headache, that was it, 15 a gram hash made my stay pleasent. weed was horrible guys, and was really expensive, im thinkin it was 150 for a half. i didnt buy none and wasnt interested enough to inquire what my buddy paid.

a guy growin indoors there could really make his way.

i made some really great friends there on the caribe, visited with capt zero, would catch him in the am while he was peddlin out the the local break with surf board in hand, really a cool easy guy.

cappy, old salty sea captain, invited me out to his project, its a nature preserve/jungle subdivision. road is in to first part and theres lots survyed and ready to build on, its a three part project, and 2 acres is runnin around 60K

some shots of his place

overall a fantastic trip, nothin better then havein a friend in country, who i am indebted to, cant wait to get back down there, plan to return this feb/march, we have visted a few places lookin for a place to stay the winters at and Costa Rica is are kinda place, the people are friendly beyond what you would expect, there very interested in you and where you came from.

i prefered the pacific side, as there are more amenities, and a bit more modern, like when ya use the can, i prefer to flush the damn wipe, i just cant get over havein to put your shitty paper in a can next to the toilet. rather just crap in a hole outside and bury:D

im not a shutterbug, but one of are friends took well over 600 pics, so ill go thru um and post some more shots from our trip. i hated packin the damn camera around.

anyway, im still stuck in the CR mode, flip flops and shorts, just cant bring myself to get back into real life, lol.

another thing that moved me was the national slogan "Pura Vida" which means Pure Life, thats what its all about, a pure free clean happy life, and costa Rica imo is where its at.

just today when i logged on, Yahoos headline was the "most green and happy country" ill be damned if Costa Rica wasnt #1, dominican republic #2 and australia #3.

pretty much says it all for me, as my friend Tomas said, Paradise:D

one other point just come to mind, when i was commentin on how there were roots growin 20 feet off the ground from the underside of tree branches, once they hit the ground they grab on and become thick branches, Tomas commented "you could plant a louisville slugger and it would root" still gettin a chuckle from that one:D

thank you Tomas:wink:

Great post! Yup, Costa Rica is an awesome place. I have been traveling to the Southern Pacific coast (just north of Panama) to fish in each of the last 3 years. Would love to find a way to retire early there.

That is a good one

Nicaragua is the poorer Costa Rica. I know some there and have been considering getting something going there for about a year or more.

Same there too, the Pacific is all touristy and the Carib is more remote and basic. People go to the Carib side for hiding and what-not

heres are hosts on the caribe side, jorge and kari, beautiful people. he said hes been offered more then he'll ever make there, but he wants to keep it for his son and his grand children.

picture.php

OH shit!!!!!!!!! like to forget the most important aspect of the caribe side, ya can light up any where, and people i mean any where.

we went to a fairly upscale italian resturant, chef runnin all over the place meetin and greetin, obviously a little tipsy, really cool guy, with the accent goin and blasted he was alot of fun, cant remember how many bottles of house wine he sent us off with, just kept the drinks commin, and at the end of the meal he comes out and announces"who wants to smoke some hash" guy gets us all fried, kisses us and sends us on our way, even called cabs for us.

the meal was top notch, we didnt get to order, he just cooked for all of us, like 4 courses, trays and trays of food. what he felt like cookin:D

like i said the whole trip was just amazing, we were tokin all over the damn place, with the bartenders, locals on the street, walkin around town, wake and bake with jorge and coffee, and CR coffee is potent.

when we first arrived at punta uva, we still had some of that good bud from the pacific side, smoked up jorge and couple locals at the bar. and boom everyone is gone? im thinkin damn we done offended the locals in some way..........nah they all ran out and gathered up there friends as they dont get good weed there to my knowledge. had a huge smoke out, and we made friends for the whole stay.

Pura Vida baby:D

what an awe inspiring little photo journey for us to follow.....seems you truly got a unique perspective of the island....

I am getting more and more convinced I just need to break down and travel....enough with the "one of these days" mentality....

hell yeah bro, gettin out and seein other places is a great way to spend your time:D

i grew my kids, put there asses through college(still payin on that), now its all about me, and the old lady of course. we promised ourselves we would go somewhere twice a year.

you can go to CR in the off season, summer here in the US, and everything is cheap, like i said airfare was 270 round trip, dinner drinks and a movie cost ya that here.

we spent a bit, but still spent 12 days includin travel, 2 of us and spent 1600.00, less then 100 a day per person. dont drink so much(bar tab was are biggest expense, lol) go like the locals, and you can go real cheap.
