Anyone flower with T5's?

I'm thinking about playing around with this using quite a few T5's running vertical and horizontal around my plants.

I'm wondering in particular how the lack of penetration is effecting yields, and how cool these things run compared to HPS.

i run ten 54w t5's in my cab and they are significantly easier to keep cool than my 400w hid mh

cant comment on penetration yet as my plants are still virgins

just finished my 216w-300w t5 grow in 97 days exactly from seed to harvest. i yeilded 6.5 oz on my first experimental run. all organic in 2 1/2 gallon pots and A+ quality smoke.

good luck and id say stay with it. coulda yeilded 8 oz easy if i let veg or flower a little longer. plus next time i will SOG with clones i took and i should be able to get 8oz every 2 months or so. and its cheap on your bill too.

penetration in my opinion isnt further then 12in from the light. use the inverse square rule to your advantage here by keeping it only 2-4in from tops. i never pruned my plants, no cuts, only string and a temporary scrog to keep things in line. they were only 10in at the most from the top of the buckets and yeilded soo much. i got from .6 gpw to almost .8 gpw depending on how you rate my useage. very little space was left to waste.

that spd shown on advancedtechlighting site is wrong, actually the peaks are way higher = real spd is even better

Great replies.

dbfr- thats sweet.

dontstep- Nice collection of lolly pops you've got there.

Both of you have you're lights mounted horizontally above the plants?

As far as the cab heating up, no problems? I'm looking at this as a way to downsize my new build and use a smaller and most importantly quieter fan.

i used two fans. one strong fan just above the canopy to move the heat pocket that builds up and one fan in the middle blowing up the canopy. i grew mine in a closet with 5 plants under 4feet of flouros and they were amazing.

I ran 2 2x4 trays with an 8 lamp t5 over each just once in a winter attic. Things got chilly, but ended up getting 13oz from both trays.

nice and quiet operation is what makes these things stand out in my book. They've definately got there application be it just veg OR a stealth flower rack or something.

Thanks Ponical.

A few questions if I may. How many plants per tray? The light were the 4' long variety, and the width with 8 bulbs happened to be 2'?

My main deal is heat control vs hps and stealth as far as fan noises. I figure if I can get substantionally cooler temps with say a 4' x 8 bulbs setup vs a 400 hps then I can get away with a 150 cfm exhaust fan vs a 300+ cfm ehaust for the hps which will of course decrease noise levels to make me feel more comfortable with the cab.

Hey Bro,
Last year I replaced my two HID fixtures with two T-5 fixtures. I did this solely for reduced temperatures in the summer time. Although I cannot remember the exact temperatures, the grow was very successful.
I'm sure yours will be, too. You pop those beans yet?

Not yet, still playing around with new cab ideas. The more I research, the more I want to tinker lol. I'll make up my mind soon I hope.
