SwissBliss is BACK!!! 380w CFL Closet Grow

Hey guys, finally made it back from overseas, for those that still remember me from back in the day. I am starting my first closet grow in a couple years, so I am a little rusty. Here is what I got going, all from bagseed:

Three 4 week old bagseed plants

One 1 week old different bagseed.

All under 5 68w CFLs. The 3 older plants have just been transplanted, and I do not think they are adjusting to the new soil as well. They have been under a lot of stress lately, but I think they are all calmed down now, enjoying their new home, and new breeze (I have a fan cooling them off). Previously they were grown in different soil by a window for 4 weeks all in one coffee cup, but I rescued them. The other small plant was a seedling a few days ago. I am praying for them all.

Pics:

Let me know what you guys think, and I am open to ANY suggestions. The plan is to veg under this lighting, and then flower under HPS. Hopefully we can get 4 females, we will see. Any nutrient suggestions would also be appreciated. I have superthrive, but don't want to use to much. Thx for looking guys!!!

What kind of Soil are u using? I hope no Miracle Grow! I would suggest some lighter soil, with some perlite in it or even try to buy some perlite to lighten ur soil up!! How often do u water? Are u letting them dry out? Make sure u let them dry out and they might perk up a little more!! They look a little overwatered!! If it is possible, u can replace maybe two of those 68 watters with 2 26 watters maybe for now, If they are the same bulbs im using (from lowes) then they are a 2700k Spectrum (more mainly for Flowering). If you put maybe two smaller lights (26 watt) in there with 3500k spectrum or higher, u will drop a few degrees in temperature and have a better variety of Color Spectrum, Plants thrive more with more than just one spectrum!!

I highly suggest removing the cardboard from the equation completely! It is a very viable fire hazard. Not in the sense that the lights themselves will ignite the material (because CFLs don't get that hot, we all know that) but if the heat causes that box to cave in on itsself (heat makes cardboard weaker over time), lets say it happens one day right after you watered your plants, and some water gets on those bulbs! You can end up wishing you never did this! It won't be the box you'd have to worry about catching on fire it would be your house!

Not to mention that cardboard is just EATING up your light. You need some reflectivity on all sides! I highly suggest some MYLAR or something similar.

Your plants look extremely stressed. There are too many off balance variables in your grow box to determine what it could be. Looks like a combonation of overwatering, heat stress, low Co2 and possibly too much fertilizer...

Do you have a fan? You need two small fans! One small fan set up as an intake to bring in fresh Co2 and one as an exaust fan...But again, lose the cardboard!

Your soil needs perlite or some other oxidizer! Your plants roots are choking!

Last but not least, PLEASE don't tell me you have plans on FLOWERING those in that cardboard box with a HPS bulb?!

plants look stressed from over watering, bulbs look like 15w=60w either daylight or sewing bulbs.
L's info would be spot on

Hey Guys,

First I would like to say thank you for al of the advice. I really appreciate it and know it will lead to a better grow.

To answer some questions:

The soil is unfortunately Miracle Grow organic, it is rather chunky, and I think the 3 plants are having transplant issues, but they ARE growing everyday. How would I add perlite to the mix without another transplant?

I have been watering them alot, but that is because I wanted the roots to take. It is rather hot in the room, and I do have one fan, and need another.

The cardboard I didnt think would be an issue, it just is to absorb water when it seeps through. I do plan to go HPS, when I flower, but that is another mission altogether.

Thanks again guys, and keep the suggestions coming!

I would Stop watering so much, the roots have already taken a little bit, u have a plant dont u?? Let the Soil dry out Completely, they will look alot better!! It makes the roots work for the water at the bottom, as they dry out from the top to the bottom first!!

hey swissbliss i remember you.

hey your doing pretty good so far, i would make a few adjustments...

i see your plants are doing a bit of stretching i would get the lights closet to the plants as possible without burning....

definatly stop watering them for 3 days or at least until the soil is dry from top to bottom. your plant will droop then wilt before it dies so not necassary to water so much.

try 1 bag of fox farm ocean forest mixed with 1 bag fox farm light warrior...

if fox farm is not available mix you miracle grow with 50 percent perlite half and half-

good thing to do when you transplant...

also vermiculite is a good soil ammendmant....

all in all you are doing good just need to work on your watering frequency and when you transplant make sure you get a good soil mix.

2 cfls would be plenty of light for plant those size right now making it look like its too hot in there! you can add them back when the plants get bigger and you can get rid of the heat better....

btw, i zoomed in on your plant pictures and your bottom leaves are yellowing and wilting, not a good sign- post under the infirmary section about the wilting yellowing lower leaves they are too young to be falling off like that.... include the pictures as well i am not good as identifying nuterient deficencys...

When you water them a lot like that what you're doing is flushing all the nutrients out of the soil and away from the roots.

I would DEFINITLY transplant into some better soil. Miracle Grow soil is great, WHEN USED IN MODERATION. Full on MG is just too strong for Cannabis.

Ease up on the watering a little. Get some good dirt. And you COULD save those ladies.

Thanks for all of the EXCELLENT advice guys, I really appreciate it.

I will try to get them out of that soil soon, and will pick up some perlite or vermiculite sometime next week, and some good soil. The stuff I have is a little mulchy. It was Miracle Grow Organic, but I guess it doesn't matter. They are branching out alot better now that I have stop watering them, and I think they will survive ok in that soil for a little bit longer. I am going to keep the lights on 24/0 and all 5 of them, I think the light will be good for them later on.

Bad News this morning folks...

I woke up to a frightening sight. All 3 of the big plants had shriveled and almost collapsed. I immediately went to the Grow Strore and bought some good fox farm soil, fox farm liquid vegetative growth nutriets, and some vermiculite. I mixed the vermiculite and soil to a 60/40 soil/vermiculite mix. I then transplanted all three of the sick plants into one pot (I have very little hope for them, and if one does come back to life, I will give him his own home, or leave him when I pull the weak shriveled ones).

The plant that was grown from seed in the miracle grow soil looks great. It is dark green, had a great root ball, and I think will thrive in the new soil.

I am going to hold off on the nutes pending your recommendations.

Here are the pics.

It was pretty cool in there, they were thriving when I watererd them. I stopped, as recommended, for 3 days and when the soil dried up it was hard as a rock, 12 hours later they shriveled and died.

What do you think, any hope of saving them?

They are starting to liven up. EVERY leaf on all 3 plants are shriveled up and dead, but I have been watering with a couple of drops of fox farm nutes in the water and they dont seem to be COMPLETELY dead, the stems still seem to have a little something left in them. I am praying...
