I've had a severe nitrogen toxicity by not letting the coco run off as much and caused the dreaded claw in late flower. But I've never had it bad enough to actually burn the leaves off.
Also, I didn't know excess Nitrogen can also cause foxtailing. That's something new I learned, thanks!
I didn't know excessive heat could cause foxtailing. Gorgeous frost on those buds nonetheless. . What's the story behind the first photo and the tiny bud? How did it get nitrogen tox?
i ran clean outta nutes had to use some ...GH Grow. Never locked out though you see the freak show that ensued. I was really just finishing a couple of runts between runs from my buddies box. At first it was pretty crazy foxtails that started turning color before the leaves and the claw was ridiculous. Still made nice smoke once it sat in a jar for 3 mos.
The buds were hilarious like licorice ropes you just cracked off a little plug and it fit the bowl perfect. There was no weight from at all LOL.
N tox sucks, i have a pic of a SEVERELY N tox Holland's Hope from Ministry of Cannabis on a thread on IC somewhere. it turned black (VERY dark green), foxtailed, clawed, AND flowered for 90+ days (it's a 8 week strain according to breeder) before i finally put it out of its misery.
it was one of my first plants though, i only let it go that long in hopes of salvaging any amount of bud, which i did, and later gave away as it was SO harsh and tasted horrible!
good thing it was all a learning experience.
peace
I've experienced specifically what I believed to be overdose of nitrogen in late veg early flower. The leafs were dark green and along the edges of the fingers, curling occurred down inward but not exactly as pictured in the ones posted here.
Temps were also high, which could be a contributing factor.
Soil that was already enriched with chicken compost was boosted with an excess amount of 10-15-10.
There may not be much merit hashing out the finer components of how to fuck up a plant as much as focus on what to do right, no?; we had some fun at the plants expense adding GH grow at the end just to see how long we could make the tails..... ...please dont report me to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Cannabis
.....now im thinking how long we coulda got em if I cranked up the heat.
OMG, they could be packaged like twizzlers.
why dont you go after those sickos strapping their plants into bondage?
LST my ass, it looks like orthodontics for plants and i'm sure they are not consenting
I may be ill-informed, old, or a dumb-ass (f-off for those of you who just said "all of the above"); but when I refer to "The Claw" I am talking about a developmental anomaly that is marked by aberrant leaf AND calyx growth that extends the (insert word for the outer most point..distal?) distal end of the tips. You can see it on the first pic.
I know many here use the term to describe leaves that curl down; but that happens from alot of things particularly heat stress (even excessive RH!)
The claw I refer to, and perhaps some other old farts, doesn't necessarily occur with necrotized or burned tissue although it usually ends up that way.
I guess I will have to torture another plant to illustrate how excessive N (amounts, not nute burn) in your late feed profile can create the conditoin I just explained.
nah.. potassium lockout from cold weather so nitrogen built up and fried it... took me forever to figure out the problem lol. was a female in veg... turned out pretty good in flower once everything was fixed.. then it started to hermie 8 days into flower.
Had a white widow that was fried pretty bad in veg also.. it's actually doing great in flower now but of course wont yield near as much as it could have.
