Marijuana Growers Mythbusters. Your input please!

I've heard a couple of interesting claims regarding growing. I am hoping some experienced growers can throw in their opinions/experiences.

1: Putting your plant in total darkness for 2 days prior to harvest will boost tricome/thc production, because the plant pushes all its energy up from the roots to help the plant continue to grow.

(I think I read this one on some forums on other sites or something.)

2: Take a plant just before harvest, and put the whole rootball into boiling water, which forces more "sap" from the plant out into the buds.

(Some guy I know who "knew a guy who grew once" said he heard about this process)

Anyone have any other myths/"tips" you've heard of?

Not sure about #1 but its good bet you'll have a dead plant with #2.

isn't the point of mythbusters actually testing the myths? I think that'd be pretty cool if people might do test cases with controls to present these myths in such a manner on here! If I had more resources I would be inclined.

i tried the 2 days in the dark with good results, i thinks its just the 2 extra days though, dont anyone boil roots please, put the root ball in a bucket of ice water for a few hours and get purple plants, i dare someone to try this, i did

I dont even know if we have to try number 2. The thought alone scares me. I definately wont be the guinea pig on that one. As far as number one I alway harvest at night just before light would normally come on so 10 hours of darkness. I have also harvested during day same breed, buds defiantely better when harvested at night, granted thats not two days but supports the myth...just my 2 cents

I'm sure someone said the same thing about putting it in a bucket of icewater until someone did it :rasta:

Anyway, what does the icewater do? just make purple roots or anything to strength/taste?

kinda sad how a lot of the threads i read, a lot people miss the point of a post and as a result, a chain of non related, post ensue.

For number 2 he clearly says just before harvest- so- no shit, boiling water will kill plants. - , its def worth a try, what could it hurt? - Obviously you wouldn't try this method if you wanted to reveg.

bagseed77 - can u explain this process in detail, that causes purple buds. At what time do you do this, and how soon did the color change happen?

get a couple bags of ice and a 5 gallon bucket ,fill with ice and water, when plant is finished pull the pot off and stick the rootball in the ice water and go do something for a few hours . its an old trick people use to up the price of their weed. doesnt work on everything and it might take a couple more days to dry.

the second one makes sense, it would trick the plant into thinking it's growing in cold temps. with most plants the cold does result in more purple hues on the buds although its never as nice as truly purple colored plant/buds.

this thread is an interesting idea, if i only had the resources to debunk all of marijuana's myths.

will it hurt?

with that attitude we wouldn't find out anything, imo

anyway
i think,im gonna put it in teh fridge during the night cycle for a few days before harvest,i think that would probley be more effective, since, you'ed think, most natural purpleing occurs during the cold fall nights right before harvest

ive read some crazy shit over the past few months of lurking...

if you want purp weed buy a strain like blue mystic, throw 10 seeds in, ull get 3 or so females, and one is bound to be the purple pheno. the buds are a neon purple color, doesnt even look real. i DOUBT seriously *although i would LOVE to be proved wrong on this one* that the ice water method works, just because of the amount of time i think it would take to change. just try it, its the only way to learn.. oh yea, POST UR RESULTS!

p.s. on coloring, what you can do is clip the buds off, leave about 1-2 inches of "handle" on the stem, and stick it in a cup with food coloring. on RIU there is a thread about it, and they actually had blue and red herb.. purely for looks.

People grow pot under heat lamps. Pot likes a hot climate to grow in. Pot growers hang their pot plants upside down to dry so that all the thc drips into the leaves from the roots and stem. My friend had a pot plant in his yard that he could just pull pot off of anytime he wanted some. If you want your pot to taste like blueberries just put some bluberry flavoring in the water. I promis not to ...

...or buy a blueberry strain. Seriously people, dropping the temperature of a grow does turn the plants purple so I'm not surprised that the roots in ice water works... Its really not that crazy of an idea.

As for letting the plant be in two days of darkness before harvest? I'm pretty sure this is just a beginning of the breaking down of chlorophyll. But you already do this when you dry and cure the buds so IMHO it wont increase anything. Neither will boiling it, except for killing the root ball. Which is pointless since you don't need it.

And to HairlessCaveApe, hanging upside down has nothing to do with the THC dripping from the roots into the buds. Plants aren't run on gravity, they're much like our throats.. Although I'm sure there's some scientific reason that buds are hung upside down, the majority of people do it because its easy, and it lets the buds be orderly. Have you ever tried to hang a bud sideways?
