Second one is from my own, but at that time it was called Sativa Mexicana, good fungi resistant too_Only the dried buds are from the grower.

Keep on growing :)

Sooo... I held out as long as I could, started harvesting today rather than tomorrow because our travel plans were foiled by the weather. At 11 weeks, it's clearly ready.

The particulars-

Germed Aug 5 in paper towel, 18/6 until 12/12 Sept 10
37w/ sq ft Philips 930 CDM lighting
Blumats
Ace's organic soil mix
Occasional EWC teas w/ gnatrol
Two stage ventilation w/ moderate temp swings, cooler towards harvest
Plant height 39"
Two pics of the same plant to show the structure & bud production-

The fluorescent shop lights don't do justice to the color. Excellent structure. The top buds on the side branches are about the size of kiwi fruit. Smells piney & sweet with undefinable notes of I don't know what. Trouble free easy grow.

I'll get some bud porn up soon.

Very nice job! Interesting structure for a pure Sativa though. Very robust looking branches and looks to be quite productive too. Was there much stretch during flowering? Can't wait for a close up of some buds and more importantly a smoke report!

Thanks for that. They're quite self supporting, at least when some of the longer side branches lean on their sisters' side branches & the walls. They were 12"-15" when I went to 12/12 in 1 gal pots, selected & up-potted to 5 gal fabric pots at the first show of pistils. They burst out to 38"-39" in stretch. Had me worried for awhile. One is a little sparser than the other 3 & I discarded the least robust specimens in the process. Nicely uniform overall. Even the buds way down low aren't larfy but rather nice little nuggets.

I thought maybe that was due to the new lighting but their goat wreck haze companions have some larf down low even though they're more open so light gets through better. One of them was hard to manage, exploding into stretch w/ 8" internodes. It wanted to be 7'-8' tall, flop all over & I don't have 7'. With some bondage, it's hugely productive, however.

Some more pics of my El Dorados :) They're starting to take off now! I'm starting to think the larger one on the right might be a male now and the smaller ones fems. The one on the left got attacked by pests a little. So far fairly quick growth overall. Not much branching developing yet. The main stem is very stout and robust. Inter-nodal spacing is much great than the Zamaldelica and Vietnamese Mindfuck (Hoa Bac) I have going so definitely some Sativa about it.

Nice crystal coverage there! And the finished color looks like you've done a primo job :) Did the calyxes go purple as well or just the leaves?

Thanks again. I try to do it well. Yours are looking good.

The color is more of an orangey maroon to my eye. There's maybe a tinge of it in some of the pistils that got the most light. I'm far from a trim fanatic, so there will be some of it in the dried buds.

Made ice water hash yesterday using the fresh trim & popcorn, pressed it in a claymaker & took a toke of it 3 hours ago. Floating down now. Absolute mindfire. Dispense with extreme caution. Sweet, smooth & very expansive hit. Irritates the nose on the exhale like anything that hasn't been cured. Rapid tachycardic onset that creeps back in waves to remind you that you're still very baked. Anybody prone to panic attacks will have one over toking this stuff.

That makes the buds very promising in a kinder & gentler sort of way.

Weighed the harvest today, now that it's been settled in jars to cure. 69g, 110g, 91g, 94g. 364g total buds, avg 3.25 oz/plant. Probably 3 oz or so of dried close trim & popcorn by estimate. Good yield for me. It's curing until after New Year.

Nice bud pic! Looks pretty dense and chunky for a Sativa. Also you have pretty good crystal coverage there as well. Still got that piney aroma? Would love me some pine smelling bud.

So far going OK. The one in the middle showed it's first female pre-flowers yesterday. The big one of the right showed it's pre-flowers a few days earlier. It's not really female looking so I guess it's a male.

Unfortunately I can only grow one female to maturity so will likely keep the middle one. I might keep a small male for pollen though :)

Now that it's been curing for a couple of weeks I have to say that this is some damned fine weed. It comes on strong with a rushy explosion of mental activity very reminiscent of imported new world tropicals from long ago, settles into a clear daydream high with good legs. While still piney, the aroma is more complex like rosemary mixed with sachet of lavender & overripe apples. It has good old school flavor & smooth smoke that will only improve over the coming weeks.

Anybody who grows it decently well won't be disappointed.

I've barely begun to sample its companion planting, goatwreck haze, which has an entirely different character, real creeper stuff, easily overtoked if you want to get anything done. Reminds me of thai sticks, that don't think I'm really very high until I realize I'm already beyond that kind of effect. I took a few tokes as a wake and bake, lost the whole morning.

I wasn't sure about El dorado when I picked it up especially in terms of potency but also authenticity. It's good to hear it can be nice and potent when done correctly and true to it's Oaxacan origins.

Mine's in late veg and so far has been a very easy, healthy and problem free grow. Still a long way to go though. Hope I get some nice pine and lavender aromas too :)

Will post some pics soon ...

Hi guys!
I really wanted to have a taste of Eldorado (tempted from the time it was called Sativa Mexicana), since I had a great pheno of Nirvana's feminized Royal Flush in 2009, I think it was right after they renamed it from Nirvana's Special. Very emotional and what I consider psychedelic, laughing in company with friends. In 2010 I grew 4 non-feminized plants looking for the same high, but only had 1 male that smelled similar, the 3 females were not this phenomenal. In 2011 I decided to skip the Jock Horror phenos of Royal Flush and bought 5 feminized Eldorado seeds. A friend of mine grew 1 of them and it was the only cannabis plant that I have ever seen with nice buds but without a single trichome... and I have seen (and smoked) quite many hemp plants. Here's a photo from the archive here:
picture.php

I grew the other 2 seeds that sprouted and they were growing fine until transplanted outdoors where they both started flowering 100% male. I've never had a single male flower on any of my outdoor plots but Eldorado seemed to not like the soil or something. Anyways, they were both beautiful, growing with lanky slender leaves after transplanted outdoors. It's funny when we decide something is with fat or narrow leaves, judging by what it looks in our conditions. Here's 2 of the Eldorados as seedlings under energy-saving fluorescent bulbs indoors:
picture.php

And here's one of them outdoors, beautifully slender, but not really looking like a pheminized plant :)

In summary, me and my friend couldn't try a single puff from the legendary Eldorado. A similar in effect result but much more straight-forward failure with the legendary strain I had last 2015 year, when I ordered Eldorado and Urban Poison from Nirvana's site, not receiving anything, only a pack of freebies on my complaint that I didn't receive seeds. I wish good luck to everybody looking for the magical mexical high, for me the search through Nirvana is over - spending 73 euros to receive a pack of freebies was not I was looking for.

Hi Yoss,

Thanks for sharing and I'm sorry to hear about your experience with Nirvana and El Dorado.

I've seen research papers about trichome structure and no trichome strains can unfortunately exist but are normally associated with hemp plants. So maybe that plant got mutated somehow at the trichome controlling locus. I'm not sure but maybe if your friend was using the wrong spectrum of lighting that could give similar no/low trichome results. Just throwing it out there no disrespect to your buddy. Also the plant doesn't look so typical of other more recent El Dorado's. The leaves are a little thinner and have lots of three bladed leaves. Also the stems look quite flimsy not sturdy as I'm experiencing. Maybe it was a dud pack or even a dud breed that season. I guess that's the perils of buying from a budget seed company.

I know Dutch Passion's Durban Poison canstart off with broad Indica leaves and quickly get progressively thinner leaves until they look like 100% Sativa leaves so not always environmental factors. My El Dorado was outdoors in full/intense Sun from day 1 the leaves have thinned just a little but a still very hybrid looking to say the least but I'm still in veg.

I'm actually digging the pics of you're El Dorado male. It looks like what I imagine a true Oaxacan to be. I'm thinking Nirvana fucked up somehow and you may have hit the jackpot and got their true breeding Oaxacan male. It's not exactly clear if they're back-crossing a male or female Oaxacan plant repeatedly to create El Dorado so you never know. I don't suppose you got to sample the male flowers, made any crosses or preserved any pollen?

Thanks,

SB

i´ve run bunch of nlds and i think i´ve had 1 plant that had narrow blades all the way, purple haze x thai. and it was mutant. all the rest have quite fat fan leaves until 7-8th node, where they start getting more narrow.
lookin good sb! good to see how these come outdoors

Slow growing here. Weather has been mild and over-watering too. They don't seem to tolerate heavy irrigation that well. 100% germ rate. One is tall & lanky maybe a male, the others more compact much like a hybrid with one having slightly broader leaves than the other.

i noticed that about the watering. they may eat a little more than i was led to believe, my female is sucking a few of her leaves to feed her seeds... oh well, she is 5 weeks into flower.
