Better than CMH (Ceramic Metal Halide)?

Sorry it took me a bit..

nah CMH is the Best for US growers.
950 very blue orentied.. so u have to buy another bulb.. your not in veg that long any ways.. and with cmh u shorten veg time a lil anyways IMPHO
The 950 is a nice bulb if we did not have CMH IMPHO.. adv tech would be selling 950 over cmh if they where..

they require mhp ballast most of us have HPS ballasts to..
if u allready had a mhp ballast and HPS ya go for it.. but otherwise go with HPS.. its not dead yet.. and u want the option to go back to HPS if u cant get cmh for a week and ur lamp is dead.. downtime is a bitch..
in worse case with cmh u go to light shop and get chity 400 hps if cmh fails and u have to wait on a new one.. if that 950 fails u best have backup.. or good mhp flower lamp .wich there is none..

we are playing with 950 now but ya.. cmh seems almost same.. if not same..
(initial vigor etc)

I'll not have to buy another bulb. I have 3 HPS on 400 & 600 and the retro in the mail...and me being a person who runs veg for 8 weeks before bloom...I want those more intense blues from the 950.

Im completely lost and behind this new technology bulbs :bashhead:

So is a CMH bulb better then a HPS bulb for flowering?

Will a CMH bulb increase the gpw compared to a HPS?

Can you run a CMH in a normal HPS ballast?

Tks guys sorry for noob questions :rasta:

8 weeks wow.. ur gonna cut that with the 950 or cmh.. more energy in shorter time provides same result as less energy over longer time.. within reason..
is that from seed or Rooted clones..

ya med

yes CMH is looking that way..
GPW goes with Quality and potency, depending on ur setup Yes. but look at overall end result.. IMPHO..
yes the cmh we discuss as retro whites 250 and 400 go in Standard HPS ballast.. Ya!! no new gear..
=ur cool we all noobs at some point and IMPHO always will be on some level

It's either seed or clone. I do not grow midgets here!
I do a very long veg cycle that mimics the daily natural loss of light as the Earth gradually faces away from the Sun. Cept I do it in 15 minute chunks every other day. Though lately, I've taken to 30 minutes every other day.
Next veg, I may shift from 18/6 and instead begin on 16/8.

CMH will lower the GPW, while raise the quality.

The right question is: How much will lower the gpw? how much will raise the quality? is it worth?

Anyhow, are thoose bulbs going to work on a digital ballast? In the case they are REALLY good!

As I understand it, CHM uses Coil and Core or magnetic ballasts. No digitals.

CMH 250 and above use HPS ballasts. CMH 150 and lower use MH ballasts. Find the page for the wattage you want and it will tell you which specific model to use. Numbers starting with "S" are HPS, those that start with "M" are MH.

I've not yet permanently installed the lamp...here though is a pic of top temps @ 10'' from the bulb.

That's ambient, without any airflow.

I can't speak to other vertical lamps...this one though...has me wondering why I've never read anything about using veticals along side horizontals.
The vertical characteristics light up a whole other dimension in the grow that horizontal lamps barely touch. The tops of all the plants now have far more light casting on them. Staying within the vertical lamp field allows for moving plants to the perimeter and experience no light loss. I'm totally digging not having to put plants under light to get them in a well lit location.

Aye...the light field is dense enough now that it can be cut with a knife!

Hey payn...
Nuh uh...transitioning into the bloom is a stretch preventitive. Coupled with another stretch stopper, lotsa short wavelength blue photons...the plants do grow big and bad yes...'stretch' though is not part of the equation.

When people out of no where toss a plant into 12/12...they're fairly well demanding the plant to stretch up for light. Coupled to the stretch promoting long wavelength red photons...plants dump a ton of energy into linear growth and develop those wide spaces in between internodes until they've settled down and adapted to the sudden change in schedule.

I dig the Philips CMH too. The Venture 950 though, can do a few things the Philips doesn't. Much of that due to the Venture having a greater surface area of light emmiting from, a larger arc. And since plenty of peeps are already on the Philips CMH, I picked up the Venture to see if it also would yield great results too, and at a fraction of the cost of so called 'grow lights'.

FYI to anyone thinking about adding the Venture 950...it's one big ass lamp. The shroud might be a knuckle or two wider than many 1000 watt MH lamps. Which is cool, cuz it helps keep it cool.
Using the two lamps together is absolutely dreamy.
