Cal-Mag needed for Distilled or RO water?

i would have to say yes you need cal mag and some thing that contains trace elements, unless you find nutrients that are made for use with ro water. canna coco A+B for example are made to be used with tap water. they count on the fact that you have some calcium as well as trace elements in the tap water.

cal-mag will not give you all the trace elements. you get calcium, magnesium and iron but not much else like sulphur and zinc. you would be better to get an organic tea blend like kelp which has it all. IMHO.
it's ok for a while, but sooner or later your plants will show problems. use 50% tap water and 50% ro water, then you still have the trace elements and calcium your plants need. keep the ph at 5.8 and you will have enough mg too this way.

Didn't know canna a+b needed to be mixed with tap water... learn something new everyday..

if your worried plants arnt getting what they need, Use the canna buffer has cal/mag to buffer coco and flush during the grow, also use the trace mix at low dose in all res mixes..
I use Ro water and dont often need to use these products but would guess that using them early in the grow gives best chances of a trouble free grow..

knna that's interesting and nice to know. I used 50/50 tap/RO for my grow and only got into trouble when I tried Cal-Mag+ for a couple of days. I'll check and see how much Ca and Mg A+B provides and think about trying to leave the tap water out of my grow next time. Got decent results this grow though, so I might just not do anything diff, hehe.

I have tried several times to eliminate Cal/Mag+ and had issues everytime (documented in several threads here at ICMAG)...Cal/Mag+ is good shit....period. If using low tds source water I suggest you get some if you have Cal/Mag issues or twisting leaves

With Canna A+B, what would be a good amount of Ca Mg to add with EC 0 water?
Could your water, as well as everyone else who has success with tap water, have the perfect amount of trace elements to compliment the A+B?

I did the mr clean auto dry mod for my water. After 3 waterings, my Strawberry Diesel showed calcium def. THere were orange spots appearing on the leaves starting from the bottom up.
On another plant, Hawaiian Purple, i believe the lack of cal or mag locked out Potassium.
I switched back to tap water and the effects diminished. I then gave them a shot of cal-mag and things are much better again.
I had the same questions. I always wondered if the RO users had to add minerals to their water.

To get a true grasp of whats going on, I think we all need to get our water analyzed.. obviously if -VT- needs it, his water is lacking what your 50/50 mix has.. but again, a water analysis will tell us exactly what the deal is..
I use soilless mix, didn't realize this was the coco coir section until after my post. Sorry!

Moreover, not all tap water is equal, as Indica Sativa eloquently pointed out.
Too make a broad statement saying it's the "kiss of death"...well, I disagree with that assesment....in fact, it's egregious. I have only seen one or two people constantly bang on Cal/Mag+ and Botanicare...
Now, if one says Cal/Mag+ is the "kiss of death with my source water and nutes"...that I can live with.
