thought you guys might be interested in this, and i haven't seen a thread yet...

looks pretty cool

PBS will be airing a two-hour-long documentary based on Michael Pollan's excellent The Botany of Desire.

The tulip, by gratifying our desire for a certain kind of beauty, has gotten us to take it from its origins in Central Asia and disperse it around the world. Marijuana, by gratifying our desire to change consciousness, has gotten people to risk their lives, their freedom, in order to grow more of it and plant more of it. The potato, by gratifying our desire for control, control over nature so that we can feed ourselves has gotten itself out of South America and expanded its range far beyond where it was 500 years ago. And the apple, by gratifying our desire for sweetness begins in the forests of Kazakhstan and is now the universal fruit. These are great winners in the dance of domestication.

It airs October 28(tomorrow) at 8pm(est) on PBS

I read that book a few years back. Damn good book, totally recommend reading it. I'm sure the program will be killer as well.

Makes you wonder who really is boss on this planet.

It was only a half hour long but it was by far The best Scientific television special on the sacred plant ever.

The short interview with Kiwi seeds was great.

Peat

I missed the first ten minutes.
And, Mrs Peat excitedly talked over most of the rest. :wallbash: LOL ;)

But, it was definately very well done.
I was a bit confused when they switched to potatoes, tho...:rasta:

Maybe they'll rerun for a while...
