12/6 instead of 12/12?

i was just reading jorge cervantes new book and he said certain dutch and canadian growers are using 12hours light and 6 dark and claiming to be achieving similar results to 12/12, anyone out there can verify this?

I saw that a guy over on the AN forums was attempting to do something like this. I think he ran one batch and the yield suffered, but there were no herm problems... the second batch was to see if he could get better yields.

doesnt the total hours of light on and off have to equal 24 hours

12+6= 18 last i heard lol

what do u do for the remaining 6 hours hmmmmmmm?

If I'm not mistaken.. the benefit is that the plant finishes faster. It sees the entire 18 hours as 1 day. So after 126 hrs (18 x 7) the plant thinks it's been through 1 week of flowering (168 hrs in a real week). Thus a 6 week strain will finish in roughly 32 days instead of 42.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's the logic behind it.

U are correct I as well believe dryden

12 hours off / 12 hours on X 8weeks(actual cycle ---) = 1344hrs = 56.00 days = 8.00 actual weeks
12 hours off / 11 hours on X 8weeks(cycle equivilant) = 1288hrs = 53.67 days = 7.66 actual weeks
12 hours off / 10 hours on X 8weeks(cycle equivilant) = 1232hrs = 51.33 days = 7.33 actual weeks
12 hours off / 09 hours on X 8weeks(cycle equivilant) = 1176hrs = 49.00 days = 7.00 actual weeks
12 hours off / 08 hours on X 8weeks(cycle equivilant) = 1120hrs = 46.67 days = 6.66 actual weeks :sasmokin: :sasmokin: :sasmokin: :sasmokin:
12 hours off / 07 hours on X 8weeks(cycle equivilant) = 1064hrs = 44.33 days = 6.33 actual weeks
12 hours off / 06 hours on X 8weeks(cycle equivilant) = 1008hrs = 42.00 days = 6.00 actual weeks

Was HERI bored so here is a chart edited about 10 times so far :joint: :joint: . If you can get 4 grows in the equivilant of 3, may actually have benifits.
I would opt for 12/9 which is 7 real weeks for 8 cycle weeks.

Got to get the right timer now. :badday: new thingys every day

Hum, the problem is that cannabis is a short day flowering strain that need its 12hours of darkness to flower. The experiment at AN forums was to diminish the number of light hours not dark hours.

With only 6 hours of dark, you won't get flowers. I suspect it was actually 6/12 - 6 hours of light and 12 hours of dark. It would speed up flowering, but I think it would reduce yield because of less time to grow during the light cycle.

I read another article a while ago that theorized the plant does 80% of its growing in about the first 8 hours of the light cycle (I could be wrong on the number of hours; it's late, I'm buzzed, and it's been quite a while since I read the article). It would probably be more productive to run an 8/12 cycle than a 6/12 cycle.

I come from the school of thought that mother nature does things right, and cannabis plants are designed by her for 24 hour days, personally I wouldnt want to fuck with that

The flowering period is determined by the night cycle, not the day cycle, so it would be 6:40 on, 12 off for flowering and the timer resets every 7th day at midnight.

That's exactly right.

From the grows I've seen done this way, the reduced yield was comprable to the reduced time it took. (Example: The plants finish 30% sooner than 12/12, but yield 30% less than 12/12) So over the course of a year, you'd harvest about the same either way.

Then why do people grow inside? Why do people grow in greenhouses? Why do people use chemical ferts? Why are people growing in hydroponics instead of soil? These are the kinds of things that advance growing as we know it, people need to change things up in order to make progress. If nobody ever did anything new, we'd never learn anything.

If potency wasnt affected then this could be a valueable tool for those trying to find a mother from seed. :chin: I have never heard of this idea before... great read.

So do we have anyone here who has actually done it? Someone to testify that its not a waste of time? it seems like a GREAT tool to find mothers, Im suprised I havent heard of this before.
