hey, a long time ago a heard about a kid who's grampa grew and the kid noticed a ring of vassaline around the bottem of his gramp's plants. he asked, and was told it was to keep bugs from crawling up the plant.

i tried it, to get rid of the ants i had. at first it worked but then the ants smarted up and just tap danced over the surface of the patroleum jelly i used. (maybe i shoulda used REAL vassaline)

just thought i'd share... see if anyone else had any exsperience with vassaline :moon: .... as far as growing goes :D

no, although wouldnt it soak into the stem and goo everything up? Certainly wouldn't want to smoke that in the buds.

They sell stuff that does the same thing but shouldent hurt plants at all, dont know the design or whats in it though so migh affect smoke.

The presence of ants often indicates aphid infestation, they're after the honeydew.

The product Deft mentioned is called "tanglefoot" i believe.

When I see ants (and usually they're bringin' in aphids, as Tom mentionned) I start by wrapping the base of the main stem with a loop of maskin' tape or something like that, it stops them for about a week but it is not a definitive solution. If I understand correctly the OP was talking about using vaseline around the base of the plant, not directly on the main stem, am I right? I'd just make a cardboard ring, cover it with vaseline and put it at the base of my plants. It would have to be changed often though...

Peace
