Hello,

Upon reading the performance specs of this specific bulb I recognized the lumen output recorded for this bulb, which is 39,000.

Now, when I compare this to the 400W Hortilux Metal Halide the lumen output is equal...

I do understand the nature of lumens is somewhat debatable when talking about usable light, but what does this mean? Would you recommend the 600W Blue for a full grow? Full spectrum seems to be the future of growing, so I would like to purchase this bulb, but if the lumen output dictates quality/quantity then I would have to reconsider.

Set me straight.

Thanks.

If you're looking for a good 600 watt blue MH lamp go with the Plantmax 7200k conversion lamp. It's a lot cheaper than the hortilux.

interesting the lumen output is so low on the 6... 1k has 80k. hps is at 145k (1k) & 88k (6)...to compare.

still have/use the 1k blue & w/o a doubt, get a more balanced growth... plants just look 'healthier'. but that might also have something to do w the fact that those under the 1k hps have much higher levels of lumen output... so they likely want more food. the hps yields more, time & time again. for straight yield, total lumen output wins. but i am pretty sure the balanced par spectrum of the blue contributes to a helathier looking foliage. i run all the lights at the same height, maybe the blue could be run closer to offset the lower lumens, yet still not frying them... never played w it. cant really say any of my tests showed an appreciably higher thc score.

What would be the best HID bulb to run for the entire crop cycle if my only goal were quality? I will be running the HID next to a full spectrum 150W Solid State Volumetric Lighting fixture.

I just got a solis-tek "6000K" 600w metal halide. It's been on for about a month now vegging 3 plants. So far so good.. I ran their 600w HPS bulb through my last flower and it worked fine.

They have bulbs in 4/6/1000 in HPS, and 3 different color temps in MH. Cheaper than hortilux/ushio etc.

The new plantmax 10000k digital halides are very cool. All power to the blue side and about a third the price of the hortilux. I have been running all plantmax for several years and the new stuff just can't be touched in terms of output and value. Those 60 dollar digimax hps 1000 watt bulbs put out 160,000 lumens! That destroys even those fancy double ended gavitas. They are available in 600 watt versions as well.
They are more modern bulbs than the hortilux and way more efficient.
If it makes you feel better to spend 100+ dollars on a light bulb go ahead.
Hortilux is no longer the best bulb in town just the priciest.
