man you got some insane roots happening there...had something similar happen when i used RDWC in the past. i went with less water (much less) more often to stop the flooding issues when to roots took over the grow containers...no media at all just a solid mass of roots.
good to see you are about to get some harvest...i know you like to play around with new systems...but i have to say i enjoy the simplicity of growing in organics....
I used 3.5 gallon buckets in my setup with at least 3 inches of sidewall showing after filling with turface 6 inches deep. Mine have been in the ppks a month for veg and now a week into flower and I haven't had to adjust my pump on time at all. I may yet on down the road of course but the lesson is have extra space as many have mentioned.
I have to wonder if you're not still feeding for too long a time at once. I think D9 mentioned earlier the roots are following the waters path down thru your tub increasing the amount of roots in the tailpiece. You have a huge tailpiece that should allow for a lot more flow than any other setup here I've seen. In order to flood your containers you're having to pump a lot of water and that water is draining wide open with that huge tailpiece. The roots are following it thereby clogging the tailpiece causing the overflows. I have to wonder if you haven't over did it with the huge tailpiece, I understand your reasoning and I agreed with it at the time but now I'm not so sure. Like the others I think you should get a better timer but also consider using 3 tailpieces like the others using the large containers. Also as I mentioned once before I'd consider using 1 tailpiece full of hydrotron or something similar.
As far as this round goes have you considered using a pulse flood of a smaller amount of water perhaps more often instead of a saturation pulse? This should provide the needed water without flooding concerns. You may yield a bit less but you should be able to finish the crop....without the weekly flood cleanups.
yup im posting 1 day early because im able to do stuff today and tomorrow im busy.
the 4 week old veg plants going into flower tomorrow. They are way smaller than they should be
Ace of Spades at 4 weeks flower : seems happy
Harvest day : Querkle @ 8 weeks
considering the various dramas / issues im pretty happy with the haul so far. When i checked the waste water i threw out (to refresh the control bucket) it was PH 5.9 EC 1.4. Thats right where i want it. Going back to Maxibloom was absolutely the right move.
im not sure if its an issue or not but the roots seem brown and sludgy rather than white and clean
there sure are alot of roots tho. Remember thats pure perlite, no coco
and 1 bud got too close to the light and got cooked. I think i prefer the old light setup of 3 in a column stacked. It was easier to see whats going on, as it is i cant get behind the plant to see whats happening.
the funny thing about that strain is that NOBODY else will grow it because its a terribly low yielder. Heaps of people love the smoke but cant handle the low numbers.
for some unknown reason i can make her behave like nobody else
i suspect its because i grow trees and they all do more SOG like grows. Subcool said it needs a decent veg time to put down roots.
The day after Dave chopped down, he was riding about on his motorbike.
His neighbor came home to somebody breaking into her house. She scared him, he scared her, she rang the cops.
The cops came round to Daves house to investigate while he wasnt there, but his sister was driving by. According to his sister they spent about half a hour trying to get into the house, looking angry.
He got home to a large number of missed calls on the phone, and had to act fast. After he shit himself that is.
Just about everything was gone when they came around again to follow up on suspicious behavior issues.
The rest of the story is still unfolding, but he is well.
Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you dont. There is a bit of each in this story.
