Best Landrace Indica

I am on the hunt for the best landrace indica that i can find in either seed or clone form. I ask my fellow ICMAG crew to bring their centuries of combined experience to help me and others distinguish between whats the real deal and whats a crap cross being sold or passed as an old afghan or kush.

Im mostly looking for seedlines so as to find some parents for future work so those would be app;reciated, but again, any clone only's are welcome especially with the limited selection of pure indica landraces still surviving.

I have tried alot of supposed pure indicas in my day and can give my opinion on a few. Id love to get the same kinda feedback from others here.

here goes...

Afghan #1 (Sensi Seeds 2006) - very uniform and obviously heavily indica influenced...but, I really think that Sensi has outcrossed and may have even lost the original pre-soviet afghans that they had in their lineup so many years ago. Boring high, low ceiling, boring to horrible taste and smell and just plain weak in most cases.

Afghan (Aloha Seeds 2003) - probably the closest Ive grown to what I remember as pure afghan, mazar i sharif type herb, but with less potency. They also seemed to have outcrossed their stuff and I havent heard of any good things coming from aloha in recent years. I might give em a try though since my experience wasnt too bad.

Deep Chunk (Tom Hill) - Awesome plant, again very close but the potency again is not really there. I would attribute this to the inbreeding and loss of vigor, it grows slow with small tight buds. Another good candidate but I'd like to find better, specially since its been about 5 years since i last had any from Tom.

I'll try and add some later if i can, gotta run. Hope somebody finds this interesting.

take care and stay safe

hindu kush from Sensi is landrace and from what im told is a good breeder plant but to grow it alone for personal smoke is a mistake in my view. The potency isnt near hybrid potency.

I agree, the Deep chunk strain has been damaged by poor handling over the years and the lack of vigor and hardiness in the strain is passed on to its offspring regaurdless of the cross.

Ive grown the Afghani#1 2x - its a hybrid plain and simple.

Ive heard Taskenti is landrace but i dont know.

guerilla, Sensi's Maple leaf indica is a hybrid of 2 very closely related afghans taken out of afghanistan before the russians invaded. While it is a hybrid, the parents were so similar that except for hybrid vigor, there is little difference in landrace. An f2 grow reveals the parents - if your talented and have an eye for variation, you can find them but honestly there is very little difference.

Ive been buying afhans for 15 years and have grown dozens - landrace and hybrid and nothing out their compares to the Maple leaf.

Taskenti is an IBL but not a landrace, it's a hybrid made from NL and Uzbequistan.

About indica landraces, I would go for some Mazars , real wild seeds suitable for breeding work. Deep Chunk, X18 or PTK are nice indicas too... Hindu Kush, Maple Leaf and Northern lights could do the job as well.

There could be a gem even under your feet if you are lucky! :p

Afkansastan is a great example of a landrace afghani. I even have some S1's of her, and they are all identical (almost)

I have smoked many pure Afghani's in my life, and this one stands out above the rest in my experiences

I would go for Mazzar if you want a indica leaning landrace ;)

I bought 3 packs of DC seeds several years back. Huge, waxy looking seeds.

I popped 2 packs of the seeds and at 45 days out, the plants were growing at a rate less than 1/2 the other strains being grown at the same time. This slow, lethargic growth is the trademark of repeated inbreeding. Ive seen it before. Beyond the lack of vigor, 4 out the 17 DC plants showed serious deformities - single branches that hermied, twisted leaves, one was varigated.

I planted 10 of the plants outdoors on May 1. They required nearly daily care/nursing and in the end, i harvested minimal amounts of mediocre smoke. I like afghans and have grown a bunch. I gave the 3rd pack of DC away.

I grew out a DC cross from cannacopia and witnessed the same lack of vigor. Ive seen 2 other crosses grown out with the same lack of vigor. Those are the facts that lead me to the conclusions i expressed in the post.

Just like to ask has anyone tried the Afghani no1 from seedsman it is supposed to be the same as the original used by
sensi but via Sam the skunkman?? If sam says its a landrace i figure it probably is

thanks alot for all the great responses.

edro - i like the lui13 from dg as well and would like to give it a try, but the question here is regarding landrace indicas. either straight landraces from thier country of origin, or maybe crossed one time.

basically everybody else has named all the ones i was thinking of or have already tried. D.S. really pointed out what i suspected about the MLI which is where I think Im gonna go when i do buy a few packs. Thanks for all the great info, its nice to have others experience to add to my own to basically rule out the ones that are a waste.

Mr. Dank, I have always loved your afkansastan and would absolutely love to give her a run. She looks like exactly what Im looking for - a pure pre-soviet afghani selected for potency dense flowers and resin production. I love the sound of the s1's hope she makes it to my room one day.

thanks again everyone, take care and stay safe
