T-8 shop light(only) grow

Here's my tiny veg grow at work:

Strains are:

Colombian Trainwreck (Trainwreck x Colombian Gold)
Trainwreck x Sour Diesel
Purple Haze
Several unknown nug bagseed clones

Just as a point of interest,I had a phototron a few years back, and even with a few mods to it(added a 150w hps,cool tubed, converted to DWC, and mylar to nearly the whole inside), I could not pull enough to last from one harvest to another. I do smoke a lot, but for the cost of one, you would be a whole lot farther ahead to just take that money to HD and make your own(like magic did).
Also, if you haven't yet figured out a good way to maintain the plant profile you want, you can always make a "tube" out of 1 inch chicken wire to go around your baby(like a scrog, but a little different). That way you could get you side buds out away from all the leaf, and from growing into the bulbs too. As for a "point of light", I think with all that side lighting it would be a good idea, and for that I would say go to HD and find the biggest CLF they sell and put it up above them(I used a temporary light socket, some extension cord, a zip tie, and a cup hook so I could move it up and down at will). Not only do they add a lot of light, the bigger ones put out some heat too(I remember reading about your low temp problem earlier on)

Thanks for the reply. My youngest plants are growing exactly the way I want them to be, so I think I have the training technique figured out well enough now. I will be starting 12/12 in a few days here!

I may add some sort of CFL near the top, but I can't be sure it's needed yet. I did put a new light rig in my veg cab though:

Side note, the front one of the two Purple Haze on the right hand side of the grow was a male and has been culled.

Just a suggestion for you veg cab, to get more useful light out of those clfs, hit up HD(my fav grow shop, in case anyone has noticed), and pick up some of those nifty Y shaped socket splitters. This way, your bulbs will be at more of an angle(most of the light from a cfl comes out of the sides) and you can rig up some soda can reflectors on the top and almost double the usable light(I mean you don't really want to light the top and sides of your box, do ya?). Another bonus of doing it that way is that you can use half of your existing sockets some where else. The only problem with doing it this way is that you will most likely have to rearrange the layout of you existing sockets to accommodate for change in "shape" of the bulbs. BTW, don't get retarded and do some thing like this, because its a fire hazard.

I dunno, it's working pretty darn well as it is, I don't think I'm gonna mess with it. It actually barely lights the top of the box at all. Most of the light seems to make it down and it doesn't use very much power, so I'm not concerned. Eventually I want to get those bell shaped reflectors they make for individual sockets, but I can't seem to find them around here lately.

Sorry for the lack of updates. It's still working, almost no mature stuff left in there though. I'm working on a new cabinet which should make this one look sad. I'm taking all the current lights, adding a 250W Sodium above, more plants, and moving to much larger containers(2.5 gallon 10inch buckets). I promise I will post an update soon, just been way busy with upgrading it all.

If I had run all clones of my two good plants, the yield off this time around would have been better. The light leak also seriously fucked things up. I have some new cola shots I'm gonna post though before they get the axe. Check the link in my sig to my grow diary, which is updated a lot more than this thread.
