Am i doing my electric math correct?

I am trying to figure out how many 600 Watts I can run on a 30 amp circuit using 240V.


My math is showing me that 8 X 600W with equal 20 amps. Is this accurate?

So 9 could be run safely? Ten gives me 25 amps which is 83% of the 30. 3% more than what i understand to be safe.

I was always under the impression that the most a 30 amp breaker could run was 4000 watts. It was whispered in my ear a while back.

I understand the load should never be more than 80% of what it can carry. Thanks.

30x 0.80 x 240/600 = 9 lamps

30 is your amp breaker limit
0.80 is a knockdown for startup current, power factors
240 is your voltage
600 is the watts per lamp

Answer is 9.6, round down.

Might want to have separated sequential ballast turn on times so you don't have a big startup surge.

Thanks for the confirmation folks.
This is great news as i can now have my second 30 amp circuit be used soley for my 25,000Btu AC and then run my other peripherals off the standard 15 amp outlets in the room.

Off to a good start, and ya'll have helped!
