Hadn't heard that before about the MH but MJ plants in general need dark periods, in my results I have seen faster growth in 18/6 rather than 24/7.

Any excess wear on a ballast from 24/7 operation will be pretty much negated by actively cooling it if you're paranoid. Even just pointing a $5 desk fan at it would work.

That being said I have had a few 1000w MH ballasts running on a flip flop 24/7 for 8 years before I had a failure and that was just the capacitor drying out and dying which was a cheap fix.

Most ballasts are designed for decades of operation in REALLY abusive conditions. If you think your grow area is bad imagine what a light post goes through.

Mine grow under 24/0 lighting with CFL, and I have done 18/6 in the past. I have noticed that under 24/0 they don't grow vertically as fast, but they are easily twice as densely branched. 18/6 seems to make more stretch for my grow. People's setups are all different though so I encourage you to find what works for you.

Ditto. I put my clones under T5s for 24 hours when I'm trying to increase branching and decrease vertical growth. I put them under CMH to grow them more vertically or when they get too tall for the T5s.

been running 24/0 with a 400mh for years... same ballast
changed the bulb a couple times

for me i get the results i am looking for this way.

i do keep the light aircooled.....

thanks for the input guys,my user experiences with hid lights is limited to a little over a month now and I already had a 400w Eye MH lamp fail

I gonna conclude a defective lamp because it is well cooled and continue my 24/0 use for MH
