Nugget of info actually, I collect vintage magazines and came across this ad in a 1934 copy of Hunter, Trader, Trapper; 1934 is three years before the 'Marijuana Tax Act' of '37 and so cannabis of course was legal then.......

The dude pictured is saying "No" to the cigarettes & pipe.
HPIM2418-1.jpg

The ad is for a 'Tobacco Redeemer' claiming to "make
yourself free and happy'. Anybody care to guess what
might be in the sweet 'Early American Spliff' pictured?

Over the years of my collecting I've found many ads for drugs such as cocaine & opiates for sale to the public. It really does make sense to legalize when you consider how it was handled in simpler times. Prohibition (it's a form of censorship) is the govts manipulation of its citizens.

It's a pretty cool advert and I'm sure it could be an advert for weed but I think the thing above the cigarettes could be a cigar?

I feel pot was a big big help in getting me off the cigs. Don't know why exactly, I didn't have to toke up all day....just getting high at the end of the day seemed to reduce the cravings I experienced for nicotine. I've known others who have said the same.

I was thinking about making a poll yesterday for IC'ers to see how many were in favor of complete Legislation of all drugs, however i figure the mods wouldnt like it...

I know lots of us that have been around are completely for this, then u get some ppl that are brainwashed by the government thinking "some drugs like heroin or cocaine are just too dangerous or bad" i forget the exact line, but heroin is one of the safest drugs known to man (well in terms of killing brain cells or damaging the body from use, if it was 100% pure clean H), unless u mix it with other things, a very wise drug counselor once told me if u could do heroin once a month, u could prob go on ur whole life doing that without any negative health effects, the problem is mostly nobody has that sort of self control...

It makes me sad to see so many people, especially stoners, brainwashed by the government about drugs... I mean common people, you didnt buy the propaganda re: pot, why do u think they would tell the truth about anything else? Guess what they don't....

Erowid.org people!

Snake oil, yes I agree ...

Snake oil, yes I agree ...

Saw this on a pro-tobacco site. Looks like it was snake oil ...

From http://fightantismokertyranny.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

The graphic shows an advertisement from the December, 1919 issue of Popular Mechanics. The full page ad is selling a smoking cessation method called Tobacco Redeemer so that smokers can all live happier, healthier lives. Uh-huh.

The graphic along the left side of the ad claims that:
Tobacco tells on nervous system
Tobacco ruins digestion
Tobacco stunts boy’s growth
Tobacco robs man of virility
Tobacco steals from you the pleasures, comforts, luxuries of life

The text is as follows:
Immediate results
Trying to quit the tobacco habit unaided is a losing fight against heavy odds, and means a serious shock to your nervous system. So don’t try it! Make the tobacco habit quit you. It will quit you if you just take Tobacco Redeemer according to directions.
