Germination and heating pad

I am doing a test run with one seed. Soaking it in aerated distilled water of 27C constant..then planting it in soil after 12 hours..does this sound fine?

Yup I used peat pellets in a plastic container. That in-turn sits on an old fashion heating pad at the low setting. It is 70-69 degrees in my room, but the floor is cold with a CFL producing almost no heat. They sprouted in 3 days, my fastest ever! Props to heating pad on low setting.

Hmmm well I don't have a heating pad but my room is fairly warm so i will keep them in there in the medium until they sprout and can handle lower temperatures. Once its in the medium should I put the lights on or wait until they emerge from the soil?

The way i germ is drop seeds in a cup of water. I put the Coffee Mugs on the a seedling heating mat. Then I cover the mugs with a book or two. It always works, 100% no questions asked. Thats just my way...

I greatly prefer peat pellets over the paper towel method.

The paper towel method may get them started, but I have a few that wont make it once you place it in soil. If you use the peat pellet method, you do not have to worry about transplantation. Plus the paper towel method can create mold. I don't like it.

Plus I always cut away the netting on the peat pellet so the roots don't get entangled. Also I prefer to put the pellet in the final container, I do not like transplanting the plant from smaller to larger containers, that will just stress it more.

My 2 cents.

what a waste of money!!! i have 1 with no low or hi settings, everytime i use it it cooks the bottoms (90+) temps...
is there anyway i can find a way to adjust the heat this thing gives off without buying the additional piece?
as it is, i hate these things...thank god i watched the temps carefully.

Well I had a successsful test germ on one seed...no heating pad...just soaked for 28 hours (until crack was visible) then put into grow medium 1cm deep under 2x42W fluros. Afte 1 1/2 days I can see the half cracked seed emerging from the soil and by tomorrow it should be upright out of the soil...might need a little help with the seed though!
